Neither Shaken - Nor Stirred
Truly my soul waiteth upon God: from him cometh my salvation. He only is my rock and my salvation; he is my defence; I shall not be greatly moved. How long will ye imagine mischief against a man? ye shall be slain all of you: as a bowing wall shall ye be, and as a tottering fence. They only consult to cast him down from his excellency: they delight in lies: they bless with their mouth, but they curse inwardly. Selah. My soul, wait thou only upon God; for my expectation is from him. He only is my rock and my salvation: he is my defence; I shall not be moved. In God is my salvation and my glory: the rock of my strength, and my refuge, is in God. Trust in him at all times; ye people, pour out your heart before him: God is a refuge for us.
Psalms 62:1-8
“We must plan for freedom, and not only for security, if for no other reason than that only freedom can make security sure.”
- Karl Popper
We must know of whom we believe and trust without waiver in His ability to maintain and keep what we are willing to submit to Him: knowing that if we yield and surrender, He will give us freedom, liberty and security. It is an unquestionable fact that if He has set you free from your burden of sin – you are indeed free and secure and nothing of or in this world should be able to shake you or stir you from the peace, assurance, hope and joy that you have in Him. Scripture tells us that ‘nothing can separate us from God.’
To read the paragraph above is so easy: to affirm the truth it attests to takes so little effort: yet when it comes to living out the reality of what these words say – often the difference between simple and difficult become painfully obvious.
It is so much easier to say we trust God implicitly than it is to demonstrate that implicit trust. We try, we make efforts and often we fall short; which is evidenced by our stress levels and our nervousness; our turmoil and confusions.
If we could learn to walk in the truth, which is every wit true, with regards to God’s power, ability and willingness to be all and everything we will ever need: we could live such peaceful and victorious lives.
Often, our inability to fully live out that which we know is true does not diminish the fact that we ultimately believe it: it rather attests to the sad state of our humanity that prevents us from yielding to total and complete surrender and the giving up of having control and authority over our own choices and allowing them to all be ordained, ordered and executed by God.
As, it has been said by many who have gone before us: our spirit might be willing; but our flesh is often weak.
We have the ability to walk through life as the Children of the Most High God without being shaken or stirred by the troubles and turmoil of life: but the question is this: will we?
Prayer:
Father, help me in my weakness; be made strong in my insecurity and grant me wisdom and grace to be bold enough to let go of it all and walk in total surety with You.
