Often we look for the great, the grand or the big opportunity to come so we can do a big dead for God; yet we loose sight of the reality that sometimes it is the most insignificant of things we might do that will end in something far greater than we ever anticipated.

God sometimes wants us to show that we can be faithful with a few things before He gives us many.

But regardless of whether it be smiling at a stranger, speaking a kind word to someone you pass by or helping solve someone’s problem: every act of kindness and love is an act of service and love for not only the person we are helping or making have a better day, but also it is for the Lord.

Whether great or small, big or tiny, may everything you do be done in love and with a heart and attitude of worship and service for the Lord.

Handicaps, Limitations and God

Paul had a handicap or limitation, but he did not let it keep him form doing the work of the ministry God called Him to.

Many believe Paul’s thorn in the flesh was limitations in his vision, yet he overcome and accomplished great things for God’s glory.

Yet many of us today, whine and whimper that we cannot do this or that in the church or volunteer for this or that ministry because we have this or that problem.

If you are willing to serve, God will give you wisdom, strength and abilities to overcome whatever limitation you may think you have.

In years of ministry I have worked with many people in wheelchairs; who were totally blind or had other severe physical handicaps, but they were willing and they always found a way to serve for God’s glory.

No limitation is too big for God to overcome.  There is no living soul that God does not have a plan and purpose for.  The real issue is, are we willing? We are defiantly able in Gods’ eyes but are we ready?

Almost everyone has some form of limitation or maybe even a handicap: I do: but I am not willing to let it stand in my way of serving the Lord.

Preaching Isn’t for Just A Few

& The Sermon Must be More Than Words

I would like to dispel a commonly accepted misconception that prevails among many in the church today: Preaching is not a duty or obligation restricted to and relegated to pastors only.   Rather it is the responsibility of any person who professes to be a child of God to preach the gospel.

Preaching is one of the duties of a pastor and an important one, but more sermons are lived out in day-to-day lives than will ever be delivered from all the pulpits in the world.

We like to call the orations delivered by pastors on Sunday morning sermons, but truth be told real sermons are more accurately described as the lives we live as Christians.

Sermons are more effective if we do them, rather than if we say them.

A message delivered from a pulpit is just a speech, it is how those words are applied, enacted and carried out in the things we do that make a difference in our world.

 Each of us is a walking sermon, whether a good one or a bad one for the cause of Christ and His kingdom.

People will be more influenced and affected by what we do and how we live out our faith, than they will ever be by messages delivered by clergy.  That does not diminish the necessity of preaching and teaching by God’s called to equip and empower the saints to be ready to go out and be living sermons.  God calls pastors or shepherds to equip the sheep so that they can go out amongst other sheep and share and to witness to the goats so they can become sheep too.

Remember we are all to be ministers of the gospel, even if we aren’t all pastors.

“He that has but one word of God before him and out of that word cannot make a sermon can never be a preacher.” – Martin Luther

We all have something of God’s word before us, even if it is but the knowledge that Jesus saved us and is living in our hearts.  With that go out and preach to your world.

It almost goes without saying that prayer is vital to spiritual living and growth.  But then what could the concept of a GPS have to do with prayer?

It is a metaphorical analogy.  What is a GPS?  Simply put it is a global positioning system.  You can tell it where you are and ask it for directions on how to get to where you need to go.  It will then give you turn-by-turn instructions on the best way to get to where you are going.  In some ways prayer is like that.  You go to God, acknowledging to Him where you are and seeking directions on how to get to where He wants you to go.  God then is always accurately willing to give you the exact steps you need to take in order for you to best accomplish His will and for you to get to where He wants to take you.  Sadly most of us are better at following the directions of a GPS which can sometimes make mistakes than we are willing to follow God who never makes mistakes.

God always has the best and right way, even if it does take us through a storm or two and across a few rough roads, He knows what we need before we can even realize, or at least admit, we need to ask for His guidance

Prayer is a vital tool in our journey of life and without it we would certainly be frequently lost and going the wrong way on many one way streets, so to speak.  To be at our most effective, most efficient and to be ultimately successful; it is imperative that we employ prayer as one of our tools for successful Christian living.

“Today any successful and competent businessman will employ the latest and best-tested methods in production, distribution and administration, and many are discovering that one of the greatest of all efficiency methods is prayer power.” – Norman Vincent Peale

Abraham Lincoln had the right insight into this concept when he stated, “I have been driven many times to my knees by overwhelming conviction that I had nowhere else to go.  My own wisdom, and that of all about me, seemed insufficient for the day.”

Jesus appeared to His disciples several times over the forty days following His resurrection.  When He left for that last time to go and take His seat at the right hand of the father in Heaven, He promised to come again.

We identify with Jesus not only as the Redeemer of our souls, through salvation but as the returning Redeemer who will take us into life everlasting to live with Him and His Father forever in Heaven.

“Behold, I shew you a mystery; We shall not all sleep, but we shall all be changed, In a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trump: for the trumpet shall sound, and the dead shall be raised incorruptible, and we shall be changed. For this corruptible must put on incorruption, and this mortal must put on immortality. So when this corruptible shall have put on incorruption, and this mortal shall have put on immortality, then shall be brought to pass the saying that is written, Death is swallowed up in victory. O death, where is thy sting? O grave, where is thy victory? The sting of death is sin; and the strength of sin is the law. But thanks be to God, which giveth us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ. Therefore, my beloved brethren, be ye stedfast, unmoveable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, forasmuch as ye know that your labour is not in vain in the Lord.” – The Bible (1 Corinthians 15:51-58)

We identify with Him as our ascended intercessor and as our soon coming Lord and King.

“Fight the good fight of faith, lay hold on eternal life, whereunto thou art also called, and hast professed a good profession before many witnesses. I give thee charge in the sight of God, who quickeneth all things, and before Christ Jesus, who before Pontius Pilate witnessed a good confession; That thou keep this commandment without spot, unrebukeable, until the appearing of our Lord Jesus Christ: Which in his times he shall shew, who is the blessed and only Potentate, the King of kings, and Lord of Lords;” – The Bible (1 Timothy 6:12-15)

Today’s Spiritual Thought:

Paul wrote, “I am crucified with Christ: nevertheless I live; yet not I, but Christ liveth in me;” – The Bible (Galatians 2:20(a)) and might the same be said of us today.

Jesus died but He rose victorious over death and hell on the third day, just as He said He would.

We identify with Him in resurrection power for when He comes into our lives we die to our old self and arise to live in the new life we have in Christ Jesus.  It is the power of God in us, by virtue of the Holy Spirit that gives our life power, guidance and direction; we must head it and yield to it in order for Him to achieve His greatest desires for us.

Though I was dead in trespass and sin, because of Jesus death and resurrection, I now have life and have it more abundantly.

I was under the curse of death, because the “Wages of sin are death,” but now I am under the blessing of life, “For the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.” – The Bible (Romans 6:23)

And they took Jesus, and led him away.  And he bearing his cross went forth into a place called the place of a skull, which is called in the Hebrew Golgotha:  Where they crucified him, and two other with him, on either side one, and Jesus in the midst.  And Pilate wrote a title, and put it on the cross. Jesus brought life through death; for it was in His dying that the penalty for humanities sins was paid and life everlasting was made possible.

Ironically in identifying with Jesus in death the focus becomes more about how we live.

By becoming a part of His death by allowing ourselves to be washed in His blood to receive forgiveness of our sins, we are born again to walk in a newness of life.  Our lives becomes less about the fact that we are perpetually dying in a physical sense and more focused on a dying to sin, self and the things that would separate us from Him and His will and more about living to reflect who He is and what He means to us.

Death and taxes are inevitable but for the Christian a natural death means life everlasting: while a failure to live life to the fullest for Him means we fail to die daily so that the best of Him can be revealed in us.

Jesus died so that we could live – may we daily die so that He can live through us.

Father, in life Jesus showed me how to live; in death He made it possible for me to live eternally – so may I live worthy of His death and die having done my best to live for Him.

And they began to accuse him, saying, We found this fellow perverting the nation, and forbidding to give tribute to Caesar, saying that he himself is Christ a King. And Pilate asked him, saying, Art thou the King of the Jews? And he answered him and said, Thou sayest it. Then said Pilate to the chief priests and to the people, I find no fault in this man. And they were the more fierce, saying, He stirreth up the people, teaching throughout all Jewry, beginning from Galilee to this place. When Pilate heard of Galilee, he asked whether the man were a Galilaean. And as soon as he knew that he belonged unto Herod's jurisdiction, he sent him to Herod, who himself also was at Jerusalem at that time. And the same day Pilate and Herod were made friends together: for before they were at enmity between themselves. And Pilate, when he had called together the chief priests and the rulers and the people, Said unto them, Ye have brought this man unto me, as one that perverteth the people: and, behold, I, having examined him before you, have found no fault in this man touching those things whereof ye accuse him: No, nor yet Herod: for I sent you to him; and, lo, nothing worthy of death is done unto him. I will therefore chastise him, and release him. (For of necessity he must release one unto them at the feast.) And they cried out all at once, saying, Away with this man, and release unto us Barabbas:  (Who for a certain sedition made in the city, and for murder, was cast into prison.)  Pilate therefore, willing to release Jesus, spake again to them. But they cried, saying, Crucify him, crucify him. And he said unto them the third time, Why, what evil hath he done? I have found no cause of death in him: I will therefore chastise him, and let him go. And they were instant with loud voices, requiring that he might be crucified. And the voices of them and of the chief priests prevailed. And Pilate gave sentence that it should be as they required.” – The Bible (Luke 23:1-24)


Jesus was betrayed by more than one of His closest friends: He was accused by the very men charged with teaching His truths and leading God’s people.  He was sentenced by a man who feared for his position and gave more credence to the opinions of others than he did to the truth.

How many of us can identify with Jesus’ feelings of betrayal?  But we must remember that like Jesus we also need to be willing to forgive those who betray us, accuse us unjustly and sometimes cause us to suffer unjustly.  After all that is what Jesus came to do and are not we to be like Him?

Today’s Prayer:

Father, though I may be wrongly accused or even betrayed by one or many grant me grace and compassion to be forgiving.  Though at times it may be tempting may I never be found guilty of betraying you or falsely accusing my brethren.  And if ever I do, help me to be quick to repent and ready to apologize.
