Be A Verb for God
Did you know that you are a noun? From a grammatical perspective we are all nouns. Nouns are by definition a person, a place or a thing. And regardless of what anyone may tell you we are all persons: in fact we are persons who Jesus gave His life for.
Spiritually speaking, however, we at least from a grammatical point of view, need to strive to be verbs. Verbs are action word and as blood bought, redeemed children of God we need to be all about the action of loving and serving and giving and helping and praising and letting our light shine in the things we say and do for Him as a part of our daily lives.
“Action is eloquence.”
- William Shakespeare
Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, and cometh down from the Father of lights, with whom is no variableness, neither shadow of turning. Of his own will begat he us with the word of truth, that we should be a kind of firstfruits of his creatures. Wherefore, my beloved brethren, let every man be swift to hear, slow to speak, slow to wrath: For the wrath of man worketh not the righteousness of God. Wherefore lay apart all filthiness and superfluity of naughtiness, and receive with meekness the engrafted word, which is able to save your souls. But be ye doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving your own selves. For if any be a hearer of the word, and not a doer, he is like unto a man beholding his natural face in a glass: For he beholdeth himself, and goeth his way, and straightway forgetteth what manner of man he was. But whoso looketh into the perfect law of liberty, and continueth therein, he being not a forgetful hearer, but a doer of the work, this man shall be blessed in his deed.
James 1:17-25
It is not enough for us to simply declare our love for the Lord: though declarations are important: we need to be more actively demonstrative and thus we need to actualize our proclamations by engaging our actions in ways that attest to and bespeak what we claim to believe. Words can express a lot but actions can often say more than words and often their impact will be more real, more meaningful and have more of a lasting influence and affect on other peoples lives.
We know you are a noun; but are you being a verb for God’s glory?.
Today’s Prayer
Father, you are worthy of greater things than I am capable of doing; yet often I don’t do the things I can; so help me to be more action oriented and more dutifully verb-like in my service for you.
“When the music fades
All is stripped away
And I simply come
Longing just to bring
Something that's of worth
That will bless Your heart
I'll bring You more than a song
For a song in itself
Is not what You have required
You search much deeper within
Through the way things appear
You're looking into my heart
I'm coming back to the heart of worship
And it's all about You,
It's all about You, Jesus
I'm sorry, Lord, for the thing I've made it
When it's all about You,
It's all about You, Jesus “
All is stripped away
And I simply come
Longing just to bring
Something that's of worth
That will bless Your heart
I'll bring You more than a song
For a song in itself
Is not what You have required
You search much deeper within
Through the way things appear
You're looking into my heart
I'm coming back to the heart of worship
And it's all about You,
It's all about You, Jesus
I'm sorry, Lord, for the thing I've made it
When it's all about You,
It's all about You, Jesus “
- Lyrics from ‘Heart of Worship’ by Matt Redman
