Thought for Tuesday, July 3rd

It’s Up To You To Do It

Ralph Waldo Emerson once said, “Activity is contagious.”  Sadly, many folk don’t like to be the one’s to get things started.  Sometimes we don’t mind jumping on board once the ball is rolling, but there aren’t as many, who are willing to give the old proverbial ball that initial push to get it started.

This is especially true when it comes to new ministries and work that needs to be done within the church.  It is so much easier to sit around and talk about what should be done; or what someone aught to be doing: than it is to get up and get to doing it.

Sadly, often, even if someone is fortuitous enough and energized enough to attempt something new and maybe different to help grow a ministry or extend the impact and outreach of the church: there are generally more folks willing to find fault, criticize and decry the efforts: than there are those who are willing to get involved, make it better and rally for it’s success.

We often say we want to make a difference in our world for the kingdom of God: but are we sincere and earnest or are we merely giving lip service?

“Lose no time; be always employed in something useful.”
-       Benjamin Franklin

Bear ye one another's burdens, and so fulfil the law of Christ.  For if a man think himself to be something, when he is nothing, he deceiveth himself.  But let every man prove his own work, and then shall he have rejoicing in himself alone, and not in another. For every man shall bear his own burden.  Let him that is taught in the word communicate unto him that teacheth in all good things. Be not deceived; God is not mocked: for whatsoever a man soweth, that shall he also reap. For he that soweth to his flesh shall of the flesh reap corruption; but he that soweth to the Spirit shall of the Spirit reap life everlasting. And let us not be weary in well doing: for in due season we shall reap, if we faint not. As we have therefore opportunity, let us do good unto all men, especially unto them who are of the household of faith.
Romans 1:1-12

In a world where the needs are many and those, that are hurting, searching and seeking for an answer: there truly is much to be done.

The question is, are we willing to do it?

Today’s Prayer

Father, you have called us to labor from dawn till setting sun.  It almost goes without saying that there is a great need for workers to accomplish your plans and purposes: but sadly it seems the laborers are few.  Help me to be a willing and ready laborer willing to serve in the fields of your kingdom to aid in bringing in the harvest.

When the music fades
All is stripped away
And I simply come
Longing just to bring
Something that's of worth
That will bless Your heart
I'll bring You more than a song
For a song in itself
Is not what You have required
You search much deeper within
Through the way things appear
You're looking into my heart
I'm coming back to the heart of worship
And it's all about You,
It's all about You, Jesus
I'm sorry, Lord, for the thing I've made it
When it's all about You,
It's all about You, Jesus
-  Lyrics from ‘Heart of Worship’ by Matt Redman
