Daily Thought for Friday, March 24th

The Body, Part Five (The Ears)

What? know ye not that your body is the temple of the Holy Ghost
which is in you, which ye have of God, and ye are not your own?
1 Corinthians 6:19

Today’s Thought:

If we were supposed to talk more than we listen, we would have two mouths and one ear”– Mark Twain

Today’s Question

Did you know that “When you talk, you repeat what you already know; when you listen, you often learn something?”  -  Jaren Sparks

Today’s Spiritual Thought:

A wise old owl lived in an oak;
The more he saw, the less he spoke;
The less he spoke, the more he heard;
Why can’t we all be more like that wise old bird?
Unknown

As seeing is to believing – so listening is to hearing when it comes to knowing the heart and thoughts of God.

Scripture admonishes us repeatedly to listen and to hear what the Spirit is saying; and if we have any doubt that we are to listen, this text puts it rather bluntly; “ If any man have an ear, let him hear.” – The Bible (Revelation 13:9)

Hearing is imperative to the body of Christ.

Remember He says, “My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow Me.” – The Bible (John 10:27)

To hear His voice we must have ears to hear and we must be listening.

We also know we are to be more than just hearers of His voice and His words: we are to also be doers also.  “But be ye doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving your own selves.” – The Bible (James 1:22)

However in order to be a doer this verse not only implies but affirms that to do requires that we must first hear.

So then it is probably justifiable to say that every believer must not only be a part of the seeing function of the body; they must also be engaged in the listening and hearing.

Isn’t it interesting that even though we are only a part of such a big body, we have so many functions and responsibilities to fulfill?

So may we say along with John Keble, “Give us grace to listen well.”

Today’s Verses:

He that is of God heareth God's words: ye therefore hear them not, because ye are not of God.
                        John 8:47

Whosoever cometh to me, and heareth my sayings, and doeth them, I will shew you to whom he is like: He is like a man which built an house, and digged deep, and laid the foundation on a rock: and when the flood arose, the stream beat vehemently upon that house, and could not shake it: for it was founded upon a rock. But he that heareth, and doeth not, is like a man that without a foundation built an house upon the earth; against which the stream did beat vehemently, and immediately it fell; and the ruin of that house was great.
Luke 6:47-49

Today’s Prayer:

Father, open my ears that I may hear your voice, your word and know your will for my life.  And then help me to have the strength, courage and wisdom to follow it.
