Self-Help

Today’s Thought:

“Very few men are wise by their own counsel, or learned by their own teaching.  For he that was only taught by himself had a fool for his master.” – Ben Johnson

Today’s Question

If there is no one to teach us, how will we ever learn?

Today’s Spiritual Thought:

Learning is essential to living a well-balanced life, and to have a well rounded education requires a multitude of teachers.

Paul wrote to Timothy instructing him to study.

Remember Jesus was constantly teaching the disciples, and boy did they have a hand up on learning disabilities.

Learning is essential, whether it is for our physical life or our spiritual success.

It is an age of self-awareness and self-improvement in which we live.  In fact there is an entire industry that thrives on publishing self-help books for Dummies on just about every subject you can imagine.

There is nothing wrong with desiring to better ourselves whether mentally, physically, or spiritually, but we must remember we cannot teach ourselves without tapping into wisdom from someone with more experience or knowledge than ourselves.  Whether it is reading a how to book, like the Bible, or being taught by a teacher or pastor, or maybe even a friend, there is always something we can learn from those around us or from the resources at our disposal.

We are all familiar with the old cliché, “God helps those who help themselves:” and this is true.

But no man or woman is an island unto them selves and in order to become all that we can be and to attain to the fullest of our potential we must avail ourselves of every chance to learn that is afforded us.

And basically the best way to help ourselves become better, more learned, equipped and ready to succeed in all we do is to take every experience God gives us, every resource He provides us and ask Him to open our eyes, ears, minds and hearts to learn everything He has for us in them.

The greatest source to turn to for self-help and self-improvement is the one who created the original proto-type.  He knows what we need before we need it.  He knows what we need to know before we are even aware that knowledge exists.

So who better to guide, direct and control our education than the one who posses all wisdom, knowledge and understanding?

None of us can help ourselves one bit, but with God’s help there is no limit to what potential we might attain to and what heights we might achieve.

Today’s Verses:

Which of you by taking thought can add one cubit unto his stature?
Matthew 6:27

All things are delivered unto me of my Father: and no man knoweth the Son, but the Father; neither knoweth any man the Father, save the Son, and he to whomsoever the Son will reveal him. Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.
Matthew 11:27-30

Today’s Prayer:

Father, my abilities to help myself may be somewhat limited, but I know by turning to you I can gain the greatest help I need, so help me help myself by yielding, surrendering and turning to you for help, guidance, instruction and wisdom for all things, all the time.
