Attitude
Today’s Thought:
“Your living is determined not so much by what life brings to you as by the attitude you bring to life.”– John Homer Miller
Today’s Question
Did you know that “The world is full of cactus, but we don’t have to sit on it?” – Will Foley
Today’s Spiritual Thought:
Everybody has an attitude! Some people have bad ones and other people have good ones; but most of us have one somewhere in-between.
Yesterday we discussed having the right perspective on life, but without the right attitude it is difficult to gain the right perspective.
Chuck Swindoll put the significance of attitude in perspective when he said this; “Words can never adequately convey the incredible impact of our attitude toward life. The longer I live the more convinced I become that life is 10 percent what happens to us and 90 percent how we respond to it.”
Our reactions to life will be impacted by our attitudes towards ourselves, others and mostly and probably most significantly by our attitude towards God.
Attitudes come in all shapes and sizes and have a multitude of varying degrees and dimensions; and they are often affected by experiences and circumstances.
But, as Christians, shouldn’t our attitude towards all things be predicated on this concept; “Let this mind be in you, which is in Christ Jesus?”
Jesus taught and demonstrated an attitude of humility and servant-hood.
He demonstrated patience, compassion and self-denial.
Jesus’ attitude towards life was that nothing else but the Father’s will was a priority.
John Cowper Powys wrote, “What we steadily, consciously, habitually think we are, that we tend to become.”
Attitude is nothing more than a mind set, a predetermined, predisposition to see, embrace and respond to the world, life and people in a set way.
Shouldn’t our mind-set be more Christ-like and shouldn’t we have an attitude of gratitude, hope, service and love, if we truly want to please God?
Maybe a little attitude adjustment is in order for us all. We all have them and for most of us they need to be changed.
Today’s Verses:
Let nothing be done through strife or vainglory; but in lowliness of mind let each esteem other better than themselves. Look not every man on his own things, but every man also on the things of others. Let this mind be in you, which was also in Christ Jesus: Who, being in the form of God, thought it not robbery to be equal with God: But made himself of no reputation, and took upon him the form of a servant, and was made in the likeness of men: And being found in fashion as a man, he humbled himself, and became obedient unto death, even the death of the cross. Wherefore God also hath highly exalted him, and given him a name which is above every name: That at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of things in heaven, and things in earth, and things under the earth; And that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.
Philippians 2:3-11
Today’s Prayer:
Father, forgive me for my bad attitudes, and forgive me also for my complacent, mediocre, hum-drum attitudes of indifference and lack of caring; and help me to have a good attitude seasoned by grace, flavored with love and filled with the desire to do your work and your will.
