Embarrassment

Today’s Thought:

“One of the misfortunes of our time is that in getting rid of false shame we have killed off so much real shame as well.” – Louis Kronenberger

Today’s Quote:

“I never wonder to see men wicked, but I often wonder to see them not ashamed.” – Jonathan Swift

Today’s Question

Did you ever ponder the notion that: “He who is shameless is graceless?” – Thomas Fuller, M.D.

Today’s Bible Verses:            Luke 9:26 &  1 John 2:28

For whosoever shall be ashamed of me and of my words, of him shall the Son of man be ashamed, when he shall come in his own glory, and in his Father's, and of the holy angels.

And now, little children, abide in him; that, when he shall appear, we may have confidence, and not be ashamed [Embarrassed] before him at his coming.

Today’s Spiritual Thought:

“The only shame is to have none.”   Pascal

Diogenes The Cynic said, “Blushing is the color of virtue.”

Almost everyone has had an embarrassing moment or two during the course of their lives.  And of course some have had that provocative, most embarrassing moment, that you’ll never outlive or forget for the rest of forever.

However, regardless of the extent of the moment or the frequency of occurrences; can you imagine anything more embarrassing than standing before God and having to answer why He embarrassed you?

Sadly, today many Christians seem to be ashamed of the gospel and they appear embarrassed if they are thought to have values or morals or if someone perceives that they stand for something or someone beyond themselves and their own gains.

Unfortunately to many Christians want to blend in and not stand out in a crowd so they conform to the ways of the world and they compromise the truth of the gospel and even on occasion deny the hope that is in them.  Of course they are not alone.  Even Peter denied knowing Jesus: but he also repented with bitter tears.

Embarrassment is never easy but don’t’ you think it might have been embarrassing for Jesus to be hanging naked between two thieves, suffering a criminals fate for crimes He did not commit?

He faced the ultimate in embarrassments for us, can we not be bold enough to occasionally be a little embarrassed for Him?

“Yet if any man suffer as a Christian, let him not be ashamed; [Embarrassed] but let him glorify God on this behalf.” – The Bible (1 Peter 4:16)

Always remember this: “Whilst shame keeps its watch, Virtue is not wholly extinguished in the heart.” – Edmund Burke

Today’s Prayer:

Father, I think after all you have given to me and all Jesus has done on my behalf; the most embarrassing moment I could ever have to face in my life is if I had to explain why I was embarrassed by you.  Rather may it be said that my most embarrassing moments were for you.
