Life

Today’s Thought:

“Life is not a problem to be solved but a reality to be experienced.” – Soren Kierkegaard

Today’s Quote:

“Life is real!  Life is earnest!  And the grave is not it’s goal: Dust thou art, to dust returneth, Was not spoken of the soul.” – Henry Wadsworth Longfellow

Today’s Question

Have you ever taken the time to consider that: “Life can only be understood backwards; but it must be lived forwards?”   Soren Kierkegaard

Today’s Bible Verses:            John 10:7-11 &  John 15:12-14

Then said Jesus unto them again, Verily, verily, I say unto you, I am the door of the sheep.  All that ever came before me are thieves and robbers: but the sheep did not hear them. I am the door: by me if any man enter in, he shall be saved, and shall go in and out, and find pasture.  The thief cometh not, but for to steal, and to kill, and to destroy: I am come that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly. I am the good shepherd: the good shepherd giveth his life for the sheep.

This is my commandment, That ye love one another, as I have loved you.  Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends. Ye are my friends, if ye do whatsoever I command you.

Today’s Spiritual Thought:

“What is life? It is a flash of a firefly in the night.  It is the breath of a buffalo in the wintertime.  It is the little shadow which runs across the grass and loses itself in the sunset.”   Crowfoot

Many would consider life to be that span of time between birth and death.  And in a literal sense there would be truth to that idea.  But on a deeper level with a more complex sense of perception one might say that real life is more than the sum of it’s parts, it’s true value and meaning have more to do with what one does with the time one has.

However spiritually speaking life is eternal and it goes on forever.  The life that we live here on earth will only have value and meaning in terms of those things of an eternal nature that we do.

Scripture says of the life that we have on this earth:

 “To every thing there is a season, and a time to every purpose under the heaven:
A time to be born, and a time to die; a time to plant, and a time to pluck up that which is planted;  A time to kill, and a time to heal; a time to break down, and a time to build up;
 A time to weep, and a time to laugh; a time to mourn, and a time to dance;
 A time to cast away stones, and a time to gather stones together; a time to embrace, and a time to refrain from embracing; A time to get, and a time to lose; a time to keep, and a time to cast away; A time to rend, and a time to sew; a time to keep silence, and a time to speak; A time to love, and a time to hate; a time of war, and a time of peace.”
- The Bible (Ecclesiastes 3:1-8)

And of matters pertaining to the importance of life and what we do with it, Scripture says:

“What profit hath he that worketh in that wherein he laboureth? I have seen the travail, which God hath given to the sons of men to be exercised in it. He hath made every thing beautiful in his time: also he hath set the world in their heart, so that no man can find out the work that God maketh from the beginning to the end.  I know that there is no good in them, but for a man to rejoice, and to do good in his life.”
- The Bible (Ecclesiastes 3:9-12)

Life is short with regards to the time we spend here on this earth, but life is eternal when it comes to our soul. We need to spend our time and make our choices during our earthly life so as to first choose our eternal destination by accepting Christ as Lord and Savior so our eternity will be spent in Heaven, rather than Hell: and then we need to live so that the things we do in our short time here will have a lasting impact on our eternity there.

Today’s Prayer:

Father, may I make every day that you give me here on earth count for you so that the things I do will be pleasing in your sight and will afford me eternal rewards and jewels to add to my crown of life so that it will be worthy of laying at your feet when I stand before you in Heaven.
