Liberty
Today’s Thought:
“Liberty relies upon itself, invites no one, promises nothing, sits in calmness and light, is positive and composed, and knows no discouragement.” – Walt Whitman
Today’s Quote:
“God grants liberty only to those who love it, and are always ready to guard and defend it.” – Daniel Webster
Today’s Question
Did you know that: “The love of liberty is the love of others?” – William Hazlitt
Hence, “He that would make his own liberty secure must guard even his enemy from oppression.” - Thomas Paine
Today’s Bible Verses: Isaiah 6:1-2, Luke 4:18-19 & Psalms 33:12
The Spirit of the Lord God is upon me; because the Lord hath anointed me to preach good tidings unto the meek; he hath sent me to bind up the brokenhearted, to proclaim liberty to the captives, and the opening of the prison to them that are bound; To proclaim the acceptable year of the Lord, and the day of vengeance of our God; to comfort all that mourn;.
The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because he hath anointed me to preach the gospel to the poor; he hath sent me to heal the brokenhearted, to preach deliverance to the captives, and recovering of sight to the blind, to set at liberty them that are bruised, To preach the acceptable year of the Lord..
Blessed is the nation whose God is the Lord; and the people whom he hath chosen for his own inheritance.
Today’s Spiritual Thought:
“Liberty not only means that the individual has both the opportunity and the burden of choice; it also means that he must bear the consequences of his actions.” – F. A. Hayek
“In New York harbor stands a lady
With a torch raised to the sky
And all who see her
Know she stands for
Liberty for you and me
I'm so proud to be called an American
To be named with the brave and the free
I will honor our flag
And our trust in God
And the statue of liberty
On lonely Golgotha stood a cross
With my Lord raised to the sky
And all who kneel there live forever
As all the saints can testify
I'm so glad to be called a Christian
To be named with the ransomed and free
As the statue liberates the citizen
So the cross liberates the soul
I'm so glad...for that rugged cross
It was there that my soul was set free
Unashamed I'll proclaim that old rugged cross
Is my statue of liberty.”
With a torch raised to the sky
And all who see her
Know she stands for
Liberty for you and me
I'm so proud to be called an American
To be named with the brave and the free
I will honor our flag
And our trust in God
And the statue of liberty
On lonely Golgotha stood a cross
With my Lord raised to the sky
And all who kneel there live forever
As all the saints can testify
I'm so glad to be called a Christian
To be named with the ransomed and free
As the statue liberates the citizen
So the cross liberates the soul
I'm so glad...for that rugged cross
It was there that my soul was set free
Unashamed I'll proclaim that old rugged cross
Is my statue of liberty.”
- Neil Enloe (lyrics from ‘The Statue of Liberty’)
Our liberty as Americans has cost many lives; our liberty as a Christian cost the life of God’s only son.
It seems all liberty requires the price of precious blood.
God bless America and God bless each and every soul that has been bought with the blood of the Lamb.
May we each live worthy of the liberties we have been given.
Today’s Prayer:
Father, so mush has been given to ensure my liberty and my freedoms both naturally and spiritually: help me to live to honor all who have had a part in all my liberties and may I be bold and courageous to share the hope of those liberties with all who I meet.
