The Truth about Our Peace
“Our peace and confidence are to be found not in our empirical holiness, nor in our progress towards perfection, but in the righteousness of Jesus Christ that covers our sinfulness and also makes us acceptable before a holy God.”
- Donald Bloesch
Let not your heart be troubled: ye believe in God, believe also in me. In my Father's house are many mansions: if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you. And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again, and receive you unto myself; that where I am, there ye may be also. And whither I go ye know, and the way ye know. Thomas saith unto him, Lord, we know not whither thou goest; and how can we know the way? Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.
John 14:1-6
We have entered the holiday season and many of us will express salutations and holiday exchanges that will include a wish for peace on earth and good will towards men. I would like to contend that within the construct and confinement of humanity – peace is not possible: especially not global or world peace. The devil has a stronghold in this area and until the antichrist comes to present a false peace and the Lord returns to bring a true peace: there will not be anything akin to peace on earth.
Yet, as Christians we have the ability to have a peace that passes understanding, even in the midst of wars and rumors of wars, both physical and spiritual. We have access to the only power that can make peace in the world within us; in the power and presence of the third person of the trinity – The Holy Spirit.
If we know God through Christ in us by His forgiveness, redemption and righteousness within us: we know the Father and if we know the Father we know the source of all wisdom; all power; all strength and all peace.
The truth of the matter is simply this: to attain peace; we must yield, surrender and follow God, through Christ Jesus; by the leading and direction of His presence (the Holy Spirit) within us.
To have real peace, we must let go and let God be what He can be and not what we think He should be. We must surrender; give up and give in and then and only then because we have chosen to allow the righteousness of God to be manifested within us, will we realize and abide in true and lasting peace.
Today’s Prayer
Father, help me to give up; give in and surrender so that I can be perpetually at peace within.
