Daily Thought for Friday, August 12th

Time
Today’s Thought:
Dost thou love Life? Then do not squander Time; for that’s the Stuff Life is made of.”  – Benjamin Franklin (from “Poor Richards’s Almanack’)

Today’s Quotes:

Time and space are fragments of the infinite for the use of finite creatures.” – Henri Frederic Amiel

Today’s Question

Have you ever stopped to ponder this truth: “Those that make the best Use of their Time have none to spare:” – Thomas Fuller   while; “Those who make the worst use of their time are the first to complain of its brevity?” – La Bruyere

Today’s Bible Verses:                     Ecclesiastes 3:1-17

To every thing there is a season, and a time to every purpose under the heaven:  A time to be born, and a time to die; a time to plant, and a time to pluck up that which is planted; A time to kill, and a time to heal; a time to break down, and a time to build up; A time to weep, and a time to laugh; a time to mourn, and a time to dance; A time to cast away stones, and a time to gather stones together; a time to embrace, and a time to refrain from embracing; A time to get, and a time to lose; a time to keep, and a time to cast away; A time to rend, and a time to sew; a time to keep silence, and a time to speak; A time to love, and a time to hate; a time of war, and a time of peace. What profit hath he that worketh in that wherein he laboureth? I have seen the travail, which God hath given to the sons of men to be exercised in it. He hath made every thing beautiful in his time: also he hath set the world in their heart, so that no man can find out the work that God maketh from the beginning to the end. I know that there is no good in them, but for a man to rejoice, and to do good in his life. And also that every man should eat and drink, and enjoy the good of all his labour, it is the gift of God.  I know that, whatsoever God doeth, it shall be for ever: nothing can be put to it, nor any thing taken from it: and God doeth it, that men should fear before him. That which hath been is now; and that which is to be hath already been; and God requireth that which is past.  And moreover I saw under the sun the place of judgment, that wickedness was there; and the place of righteousness, that iniquity was there.  I said in mine heart, God shall judge the righteous and the wicked: for there is a time there for every purpose and for every work.

Today’s Spiritual Thought:

“Take care of the minutes, for the hours will take care of themselves.”– Lord Chesterfield

Time is a concept we all, or at least most of us, understand.  And many of us often feel we do not have enough of it to get what we need to do done.

After all there are only 525,600 minutes in a year; 10,080 minutes in a week; and 1,440 minutes in a day: 24 hours for each day with only sixty minutes in each hour: - I think you get the picture.  It is easy for time to get away from us.

Much has been said about time: “Time enough is little enough:” “Time flies:’ “Time heals all wounds:” “ Time will tell:” (all from Anonymous sources) and we could go on, but time doesn’t permit.

The point for us as Christians is that time is precious and our time on this earth is limited.  We need to optimize the use of the time God has given us so be the most effective and most productive we can be for Him.

Scripture says, “For a thousand years in thy sight are but as yesterday when it is past, and as a watch in the night.” – The Bible (Psalms 90:4)

When we stand before God: He will expect us to give an account for what we have done with the time He has given us.

I hope we all will use our time wisely.

Today’s Prayer:

Father, every tick of the clock brings me one second closer to seeing you face to face.  May I make each moment as effective as it can possibly be for your glory and honor and to accomplish the work of your kingdom.
