Daily Thought for Thursday, August 18h

August 18, 2011

Heavenly Places
Today’s Thought:

“But God, who is rich in mercy, for his great love wherewith he loved us,  Even when we were dead in sins, hath quickened us together with Christ, (by grace ye are saved;)  And hath raised us up together, and made us sit together in heavenly places in Christ Jesus:”  – The Bible (Ephesians 2:4-6)

Today’s Quotes:

“Jesus answered and said unto him, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God.” – The Bible (John 3:3)

Today’s Question

Have you ever considered this notion: “Aim at Heaven and you will get earth ‘thrown in’: aim at earth and you will get neither?” – C. S. Lewis

Today’s Bible Verses:                     John 14:1-3

Let not your heart be troubled: ye believe in God, believe also in me.  In my Father's house are many mansions: if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you.  And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again, and receive you unto myself; that where I am, there ye may be also.

Today’s Spiritual Thought:

“Crosses are Ladders to Heaven.” – Thomas Fuller

Heaven is a place of such grandeur that my feeble attempt at adjectives would fail to adequately describe it.  Yet the truth remains that regardless of how awestruck we might be at it’s grandiose qualities – there remains only one way to get there, and that is by accepting Jesus Christ as our personal Savior and allowing His blood to wash away our sins.

Charles Stanford said, “Heaven must be in me before I can be in Heaven.”  How true this is, Christ must dwell in your heart or you will not be granted entrance at the Pearly Gates.

Heaven is a place of perfection where the unthinkable can happen.

“The wolf also shall dwell with the lamb, and the leopard shall lie down with the kid; and the calf and the young lion and the fatling together; and a little child shall lead them. And the cow and the bear shall feed; their young ones shall lie down together: and the lion shall eat straw like the ox.  And the sucking child shall play on the hole of the asp, and the weaned child shall put his hand on the cockatrice' den.” – The Bible (Isaiah 11:6-8)

Heaven is a place of unfathomable beauty.

“And the city lieth foursquare, and the length is as large as the breadth: and he measured the city with the reed, twelve thousand furlongs. The length and the breadth and the height of it are equal. And he measured the wall thereof, an hundred and forty and four cubits, according to the measure of a man, that is, of the angel. And the building of the wall of it was of jasper: and the city was pure gold, like unto clear glass.  And the foundations of the wall of the city were garnished with all manner of precious stones. The first foundation was jasper; the second, sapphire; the third, a chalcedony; the fourth, an emerald;  The fifth, sardonyx; the sixth, sardius; the seventh, chrysolite; the eighth, beryl; the ninth, a topaz; the tenth, a chrysoprasus; the eleventh, a jacinth; the twelfth, an amethyst. And the twelve gates were twelve pearls: every several gate was of one pearl: and the street of the city was pure gold, as it were transparent glass.  And I saw no temple therein: for the Lord God Almighty and the Lamb are the temple of it.  And the city had no need of the sun, neither of the moon, to shine in it: for the glory of God did lighten it, and the Lamb is the light thereof.” -The Bible (Revelation 21:16-23)

As ‘Wonderful as Heaven must be;’ ‘I can only imagine what it will be like;’ and I can’t understand why anyone would not want to be there for all eternity.

Today’s Prayer:

Father, I look forward to my Heavenly home, but in my enthusiasm and excitement about getting there; may I not forget to labor to bring as many with me as I can by being bold, faithful and diligent in telling them how to get there.
