Thinking

Today’s Thought:
Thinking is harder work than hard work.”  – Leo Rosten

Today’s Quotes:

Clear thinking required courage rather than intelligence.” – Thomas Szasz

Today’s Question

Considering some of the things that happen do you ever wonder if: “Men fear thought as they fear nothing else on earth – more than ruin, more even than death?” – Bertrand Raussell

Today’s Bible Verses:                  Philippians 4:4-8

Rejoice in the Lord alway: and again I say, Rejoice.  Let your moderation be known unto all men. The Lord is at hand. Be careful for nothing; but in every thing by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God. And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus. Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things.

Today’s Spiritual Thought:

You know, Ollie, I was just thinking.
About what?
Nothing, I was just thinking.” – Oliver Hardy and Stan Laurel (from ‘Jitterbugs’)

The human brain is capable of far more than it is ever used for.  So do you ever wonder how it is when our brains have such a great capacity to accomplish things; we end up in some of the messes we do?

Sometime it is because we don’t think before we act and more often than not it is because we don’t think before we speak.  George Barzen supposedly said, “If everybody thought before they spoke, the silence would be deafening.”

Sometimes I think my problems come from acting without thinking things through, while at other times I think I think to much and over think.  Regardless if you are a not so much of a thinker or an over thinker: as Christians our thoughts need to be on Christ and in accordance with His Word and His desires for us.

Sadly, more often than not, this is not the case.

We need to always keep this objective at the forefront of our thinking:

“For though we walk in the flesh, we do not war after the flesh: (For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal, but mighty through God to the pulling down of strong holds;)  Casting down imaginations, and every high thing that exalteth itself against the knowledge of God, and bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ;” – The Bible (2 Corinthians 10:3-5)

Think like a man of action, act like a man of thought.” – Henri Bergson

And let all your thoughts be obedient and pleasing to God.

Today’s Prayer:

Father, I’ve often heard it said that a mind is a terrible thing to waste; so may my mind not be wasted on things that don’t matter but rather may my thoughts, desires and ambitions always be on you.
