Daily Thought for Friday, September 9th

Beyond Education & Learning
or
When Life Happens

Today’s Thought:
The most instructive experiences are those of everyday life.  – Friedrich Nietzsche

Today’s Quote:

“It is no profit to have learned well if you neglect to do well.” – Publilius Syrus

Today’s Question

Did you know: “The most unhappy of all men is the man who cannot tell what he is going to do, who has got no work cut our for him in the world, and does not go into it?”     Thomas Carlyle

Today’s Bible Verses:                   Mark 16:14-15 &  1 John 2:3-6

Afterward he appeared unto the eleven as they sat at meat, and upbraided them with their unbelief and hardness of heart, because they believed not them which had seen him after he was risen.  And he said unto them, Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature.

And hereby we do know that we know him, if we keep his commandments. He that saith, I know him, and keepeth not his commandments, is a liar, and the truth is not in him. But whoso keepeth his word, in him verily is the love of God perfected: hereby know we that we are in him. He that saith he abideth in him ought himself also so to walk, even as he walked.

Today’s Spiritual Thought:

I long to accomplish a great and noble task, but it is my chief duty to accomplish humble tasks as though they were great and noble.  The world is moved along, not only by the mighty shoves of its heroes but also by the aggregate of the tiny pushes of each honest worker.   Helen Keller

There comes a time in every persons life when they can no longer sit back and observe:  attend a class, lecture or seminar and absorb more information: or simply glean from the experiences of others: there is a time when each individual must stand on their own two feet and step out to put into action all the education and learning they have acquired.

It has often been said that ‘experience is the best teacher’ and often times this is true.

As Christians it is imperative for us to be more than just ‘hearers of the word’ – we must become ‘doers of the word’.

At some point we have to put action to our faith and activity to our beliefs.

We need to remember that scripture tells us: “Ye are the salt of the earth: but if the salt have lost his savour, wherewith shall it be salted? it is thenceforth good for nothing, but to be cast out, and to be trodden under foot of men. Ye are the light of the world. A city that is set on an hill cannot be hid. Neither do men light a candle, and put it under a bushel, but on a candlestick; and it giveth light unto all that are in the house. Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven.– The Bible (Matthew 5:13-16)

We should never stop acquiring knowledge, seeking wisdom and desiring to learn more about God; His Will; and His plans and purposes for our lives: but while we are continuing to learn we must also be perpetually doing the work of His Kingdom if we wish to accomplish the will of the Father.

Today’s Prayer:

Father, may I never stop attaining more knowledge about you and wisdom from you: but may I also never cease to labor for my Master from dawn till setting sun.
