Be Wise

Today’s Thought:

“No mention shall be made of coral, or of pearls: for the price of wisdom is above rubies.”  – The Bible (Job 28:18)

Today’s Quote:

“A wise man sees as much as he ought, not as much as he can.”  – Michel de Montaigne

Today’s Question:

Have you ever stopped to consider that: “The doorstep to the temple of wisdom is to acknowledge our own ignorance?” – Charles Spurgeon

Today’s Bible Verses:     Proverbs 24:3-6  &  Proverbs 2:1-2

Through wisdom is an house builded; and by understanding it is established: And by knowledge shall the chambers be filled with all precious and pleasant riches.  A wise man is strong; yea, a man of knowledge increaseth strength. For by wise counsel thou shalt make thy war: and in multitude of counsellers there is safety.

My son, if thou wilt receive my words, and hide my commandments with thee;  So that thou incline thine ear unto wisdom, and apply thine heart to understanding;

Today’s Spiritual Thought:

“When wisdom entereth into thine heart, and knowledge is pleasant unto thy soul;"    The Bible (Proverbs 2:10)

“A man should never be ashamed to own that he has been in the wrong, which is but saying, in other words, that he is wiser today than he was yesterday.” – Jonathan Swift

Sometimes the greatest testament to wisdom is the recognition of what one does not know.  The ability to see that we have limits to our understanding and knowledge is the first step in helping us to start on the journey of learning.

Another form of wisdom is to be able to recognize when to take actions and when to remain still and quite.  “The wise man would rather see men needing him than thanking him.” – Baltasar Gracian

And probably the highest and most significant proof that one has attained wisdom is found in the individual that has reached the determination that in and of themselves they are capable of not much – but with God they have unlimited potential.

The wisest of persons knows that they must decrease and God must increase in their lives in order for God’s work and His will to be fully accomplished to it’s greatest end.

And as a wise person we must continually seek wisdom and hunger for understanding, especially when it comes to the things of God.

“He who asks a question may be a fool for five minutes: he who never asks a question remains a fool forever.” – Anonymous

“Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and ye shall find; knock, and it shall be opened unto you: For every one that asketh receiveth; and he that seeketh findeth; and to him that knocketh it shall be opened.”  - The Bible (Matthew 7:7-8)

A wise person knows the best place to gain wisdom is at the feet of the one who posses all wisdom – and that is God.

Today’s Prayer:

Father, I need to be wiser than I am, but wise enough to know just how wise I’m not.

“Wise men change their minds, fools never.”
– Anonymous
