Daily Thought for Thursday, October 27th

Be Ambitious

Today’s Thought:

“Ah, but a man’s reach should exceed his grasp, or what’s a heaven for?”  – Robert Browning

Today’s Quote:

“I would sooner fail than not be among the greatest.”  – John Keats

Today’s Question:

Did you know that having long-range goals often keep us from becoming overly frustrated by short-term failings?

Today’s Bible Verses:     Proverbs 16:3,  Psalm 27:4  &  Colossians 3:23-24

Commit thy works unto the Lord, and thy thoughts shall be established.

One thing have I desired of the Lord, that will I seek after; that I may dwell in the house of the Lord all the days of my life, to behold the beauty of the Lord, and to inquire in his temple.

And whatsoever ye do, do it heartily, as to the Lord, and not unto men; Knowing that of the Lord ye shall receive the reward of the inheritance: for ye serve the Lord Christ.

Today’s Spiritual Thought:

“You have to think anyway, so why not think big?"    Donald Trump

It has often been said, ‘Anything worth doing is worth doing well;’ and this proverb has never been truer or more applicable than when it is applied to our spiritual lives and our service for the Lord.

Captain James Cook said, “I had ambition not only to go farther than any man had ever been before, but as far as it was possible for a man to go.”  We need to have similar ambitions when it comes to living for God.

And we need to remember that when we engage in ambitious endeavors for the Lord, we should not do them for the recognition or praise of men.  “He that does good for God’s sake seeks neither praise or reward; he is sure of both in the end.” – William Penn

We are encouraged by scripture to “… present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service. And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God.” – The Bible (Romans 12:1-2)

When we seek to serve God it should be with all that we are to achieve the greatest for His glory that is possible.  We need to be ambitious, excited and eager to seize every opportunity and to make the most of it that we can for His honor and His glory.

Nothing is too good for God: and He deserves more than greater and better than best: so in all we do for Him may it be totally, completely and without reserve or reservation: giving all we are for all He is to us.

And may we always keep this in mind: “You do not test the resources of God until you attempt the impossible.” – F. B. Meyer

More often than not, when we do our best and we have done all we can do: God will do the rest so that we can achieve greater things than even we dared to imagine.

Today’s Prayer:

Father, when it comes to doing things for you, may I reach for the stars, knowing when I have reached as far as I can you will help me get the rest of the way.

“The ripest peach is highest on the tree.”
– James Whitcomb Riley
