A Change In The Process of Our Thinking
“You are today where your thoughts have brought you; you will be tomorrow where your thoughts take you.”
- James Allen
Behold, thou shalt call a nation that thou knowest not, and nations that knew not thee shall run unto thee because of the Lord thy God, and for the Holy One of Israel; for he hath glorified thee. Seek ye the Lord while he may be found, call ye upon him while he is near: Let the wicked forsake his way, and the unrighteous man his thoughts: and let him return unto the Lord, and he will have mercy upon him; and to our God, for he will abundantly pardon. For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways, saith the Lord. For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways, and my thoughts than your thoughts. For as the rain cometh down, and the snow from heaven, and returneth not thither, but watereth the earth, and maketh it bring forth and bud, that it may give seed to the sower, and bread to the eater: So shall my word be that goeth forth out of my mouth: it shall not return unto me void, but it shall accomplish that which I please, and it shall prosper in the thing whereto I sent it.
Isaiah 55:5-11
I can easily get lost in my thoughts. When I was younger I could day dream for hours: I suppose I still could if I would allow myself too. But what profit is it to ponder all the ramblings and imaginations that can proliferate themselves within my mind, if at the core of their essence they are not somehow connected to God?
I am not suggesting that we become so super spiritual, intellectually speaking that every singe thought we have is a Jesus thought, though could there really be any true harm in that. But rather I am propagating the idea that we need to have a more Christ centered thought process; by which our thoughts, desires, dreams, etc. are generated and motivated by God’s word, His presence and His purpose for us.
We know His thoughts are so much better than ours and His desires for us are so much greater and purer than ours could ever be: but I often wonder if our process of thinking ever even comes near touching the concepts and ideals He has,
God has promised that His word will accomplish what it is intended to do: so if we want to be successful and accomplish great things, doesn’t it somehow make some degree of sense, that we should direct our thought processes towards being focused on and centered around the things we know from His word.
I know we have to make those routine decisions of what to wear or what we want for dinner; but when it comes to the bigger things like how to deal with troubles situations or difficult people, wouldn’t His thoughts be beneficial in helping us do it the right way instead of being motivated by our personal motivations or our selfish desires?
What I am proposing is not that we become mindless oafs who don’t think for themselves: but instead I am suggesting we need to become thoughtful children who contemplate our deeds and actions with Him and His word being the foundation on which we build to reach our conclusions.
Today’s Prayer
Father, may every thought that I have be brought to obedience to you and may their foundations be based on your word and the guidance of your Holy Spirit.
“Purify my heart
Let me be as gold
And precious silver
Purify my heart
Cleanse me from within
And make me holy
Refiner’s fire
My hearts one desire
Is to be holy
Set apart for You my Master
Ready to do your will.“
