Are You Wet Yet

“If grace is like water, the church should be an ocean.”
-       Jefferson Bethke

And he shewed me a pure river of water of life, clear as crystal, proceeding out of the throne of God and of the Lamb.
Revelation 22:1

We have heard of being ‘wet behind the ears’ or ‘being all wet’: and these idioms usually indicate a sense of lacking something, such as experience or knowledge or maybe understanding.

Conversely, from a spiritual perspective, being all wet, might not be such a bad thing nor would being wet behind the ears.

Let me explain my stream of thought which lead me to the pool of this conclusion.

Jesus said He was the living water and to be submerged in His presence and power would not be a bad thing.

Of course I am not speaking from a literal perspective, but rather from a figurative point of view; but the truth remains that if we as Christians would allow ourselves to dive heart first into the spring of God’s living water: to let His mercy and grace flow like a river and we were to stay immersed in His power and presence: it would be wonderfully refreshing, rejuvenating and amazing to see what He could do in our lives and in the life of our churches.

The idea of total submersion implies we are completely surround and totally covered.  Since the Holy Spirit is already on the inside, if we are believers: to be totally surrounded on the outside would seem to me to be the optimal of all possibilities.

So are you ready to get wet?

Today’s Prayer

Father, may I be and stay totally submerged in your power and presence.

There is a candle in every soul
Some brightly burning, some dark and cold
There is a Spirit, who brings a fire
Ignites a candle and makes His home.
Frustrated brother see how he’s tired to
light his own candle some other way.
See now your sister she’s been robbed and lied to
Still holds a candle without a flame.
So carry your candle, run to the darkness
Seek out the lonely, the tired and worn.
Hold out your candle for all to see it,
Take your candle, go light your world.“
