One Vote- One Voice – Will You Be Heard
“Politics is not the art of the possible. It consists of choosing between the disastrous and the unpalatable.”
- J. K. Gailbraith
The quote above, sadly, seems to reflect the opinions and attitudes of many I have heard discussing political issues relative to today’s elections.
On the subject of politics itself, I would say nothing more than this: may each Christian in America pray and vote.
Blessed is the nation whose God is the Lord; and the people whom he hath chosen for his own inheritance.
Psalms 33:12
Unfortunately America, though still a Christian nation, is not nearly as God fearing and morally upright as it started out to be. Billy Graham has said, “If God doesn’t soon judge America, He is going to have to apologize to Sodom and Gomorrah.” And it is true that we have ‘come a long way baby’ but unfortunately the way we have come has not necessarily lead us to a good place.
Often we Christians like to grumble and complain about how things are being done and how many of the changes that are taking place we do not like: but if we do not seize the day: and take the opportunity to let our voice be heard by exercising the liberties and freedoms we do have (which today is the ability to vote): do we really have a right to complain if those freedoms go away.
And of course we would always be well reminded to take to heart the directives in this verse:
If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land.
2 Chronicles 7:14
Today’s Prayer
Father, thank you for the freedoms and liberties I have both as a citizen and as a Christian: may I exercise them regularly and wisely.
“There is a candle in every soul
Some brightly burning, some dark and cold
There is a Spirit, who brings a fire
Ignites a candle and makes His home.
Frustrated brother see how he’s tired to
light his own candle some other way.
See now your sister she’s been robbed and lied to
Still holds a candle without a flame.
So carry your candle, run to the darkness
Seek out the lonely, the tired and worn.
Hold out your candle for all to see it,
Take your candle, go light your world.“
- Lyrics from ‘Go Light Your World’ by Chris Rice
