The ‘Self’ Factor

Is there anything more valuable you have to offer than to give of yourself?

Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends.
John 15:13

“If you would be loved, love and be loveable.”
-       Benjamin Franklin

The greatest gift is a portion of thyself.
-       Ralph Waldo Emerson

God doesn’t need anything we have to give.

God doesn’t even need us to accomplish what He wants to do.

Yet, God wants us.  He desires a relationship with us and it is not His will that any of us should perish.

From God’s point of view the most precious and valuable thing we have to offer Him is our self.

Consequently the greatest and most valuable asset we have to offer each other is ourselves.

It is in that giving of us to each other that we in affect give ourselves to God.

Yes, we must commit our heart to Him; we must believe He gave His son to die in our place and we must be willing to accept the gift of salvation He gives: and in so doing that is when we can truly begin to give back to Him that thing He desires the most from us.

It is in loving, giving, and serving each other that we love, give and serve Him.

We can’t give God our time: He created time.  We can’t give God our talents or resources for they all belonged to Him to begin with.  But we can give Him ourselves, our will, our freedom of self-control and self-fulfillment for the good and benefit of all those around us.

It is when we do this that we have truly given Him the greatest gift we have to give.

Today’s Prayer

Father, all that I am; all that I have; all that I hope and all that I ever will be: may it be yours to use through me to touch others for You.
