Where Our Help Comes From
When you really need help: who do you call?
And he [Jesus] said unto his disciples, Therefore I say unto you, Take no thought for your life, what ye shall eat; neither for the body, what ye shall put on. The life is more than meat, and the body is more than raiment. Consider the ravens: for they neither sow nor reap; which neither have storehouse nor barn; and God feedeth them: how much more are ye better than the fowls? And which of you with taking thought can add to his stature one cubit? If ye then be not able to do that thing which is least, why take ye thought for the rest? Consider the lilies how they grow: they toil not, they spin not; and yet I say unto you, that Solomon in all his glory was not arrayed like one of these. If then God so clothe the grass, which is to day in the field, and to morrow is cast into the oven; how much more will he clothe you, O ye of little faith? And seek not ye what ye shall eat, or what ye shall drink, neither be ye of doubtful mind. For all these things do the nations of the world seek after: and your Father knoweth that ye have need of these things. But rather seek ye the kingdom of God; and all these things shall be added unto you.
Luke 12:22-31
“If we believe that liberty comes through a political worldview, if we believe that our shelter and food is given us by the state or an economic system, if we believe that equality is achieved through political design, then we become idolaters. We replace God with man-made things.”
- Peter Freeman
Help can come from many places and many sources: but the help that brings peace to a troubled soul; healing to a wounded heart; and hope to a seeking spirit can only come from the Lord.
Men’s help may be good for temporal things and that is not to say that it is not good: but help that has eternal and lasting affect can only be found in the power and presence of God.
We all need help, at different times in our lives. Sometime the help we need is specific to a particular moment or situation and we are blessed to have many around us that can help: but when we need help that matters beyond the restraints of a limited situation: we need to turn to the Maker of Heaven and Earth and realize He is the true source of where the most needful help comes from.
Today’s Prayer
Father, whether immediate or long term; may I recognize that ultimately you are the source of all the help I need, even if you use others to be your hands and feet. Thank you!
