The Results of Recognition
At that time Jesus answered and said, I thank thee, O Father, Lord of heaven and earth, because thou hast hid these things from the wise and prudent, and hast revealed them unto babes. Even so, Father: for so it seemed good in thy sight. All things are delivered unto me of my Father: and no man knoweth the Son, but the Father; neither knoweth any man the Father, save the Son, and he to whomsoever the Son will reveal him.
Matthew 11:25-27
“The highest point a man can attain is not Knowledge, or Virtue, or Goodness, or Victory, but something even greater, more heroic and more despairing: Sacred Awe!”
- Nikos Kazantzakis
To know of God is one thing; but to truly know God is another. To know God as we need to know Him leaves us with no alternative but to love Him and be in awe of His magnitude, majesty and greatness.
You are beautiful beyond description,
Too marvelous for words,
Too wonderful for comprehension
Like nothing ever seen or heard.
Who can grasp your infinite wisdom?
Who can fathom the depth of your love?
You are beautiful beyond description;
Majesty enthroned above.
And I stand, I stand in awe of You.
Holy God to Whom all praise is due,
I stand in awe of You.
- Mark Altrogge (lyrics from ‘I Stand In Awe’)
To recognize God for who He is and what He means to us and what He can do in our lives: should cause us to worship Him in spirit and truth with every aspect of our lives.
When I look into your holiness,
When I gaze into your loveliness,
When all things that surround,
Become shadows in the light of You.
When I’ve found the joy of reaching Your heart,
When my will becomes enthroned in Your love,
When all things that surround become shadows in the light of You.
I worship You!
The reason I live is to worship You.
- Wayne and Cathy Perrrin (lyrics from ‘When I Look Into Your Holiness’)
Today’s Prayer
Father, may I be able and willing to recognize You for who You really are and as I am in awe of You; may all I do be in worship of You.
