Thought for Friday, April 12th

Regrets

Brethren, I count not myself to have apprehended: but this one thing I do, forgetting those things which are behind, and reaching forth unto those things which are before,  I press toward the mark for the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus.
Philippians 3:13-14

“What ‘twas weak to do
‘Tis weaker to lament, once being done.”
-          Percy Bysshe Shelley

Regrets – I have had more than a few: way to many to list here or even mention: but regardless of the reason for the regret; I can do nothing to change what was: but I can do everything to change what is.

I have heard it said; ‘you can’t cry over spilt milk;’ which is true, but you don’t want to keep spilling the same milk, in the same place, if you can help it.

It is fair to say that everyone makes mistakes, bad decisions and poor choices: but the challenge, especially for us as Christians; is to recognize, realize, repent and reform or change.

The key to this reformation or need to change is to recognize and realize that often we need help from a power greater than ourselves and strength form a source beyond who we are:  in short what we need to become a better person is the presence, power and hand of God to work and affect the needed changes within us.

It is through our faults, failures and weaknesses, that He, when we will let Him, is made strong and is able to manifest and demonstrate His power and greatness through us and in us.

I would think it is not only fare to say: but rather accurate to declare: that were it not for Him and His presence and work in my life: I would have far more regrets than I do.

Prayer:

Father, just as you turn my sorrows into joys; may you also turn my regrets into opportunities for me to grow and become a better person and more like what you want me to be.
