Persistence and Determination
“Be like a postage stamp – stick to one thing until you get there.”
- Josh Billings
Today’s Thought:
“We conquer by continuing.” – George Matheson
Today’s Question
Did you know, “Life is hard, by the yard; But by the inch, Life’s a cinch?” – Jean L. Gordon
Today’s Spiritual Thought:
“I know the price of success:
dedication hard work, and an unremitting devotion
to the things you want to see happen.”
- Frank Lloyd Wright
“I have decided to follow Jesus;
No turning back, no turning back.
The world behind me, the cross before me;
No turning back, no turning back.
Though none go with me, still I will follow;
No turning back, no turning back.”
- S. Sundar Singh (Lyrics from ‘ I Have Decided to Follow Jesus’)
Following Jesus requires one to have a measure of persistence and a boatload of determination. The road is not always easy and the problems are sure to come, but the final destination makes the journey well worth the effort.
Charles Spurgeon said, “By perseverance, the snail reached the ark.” Sometimes we may feel like the snail: the journey may seem endless, the distance far and the obstacles overwhelming, but by grace, in faith we will succeed, if we do not faint and give up.
Helen Keller believed, “We can do anything we want to do if we stick to it long enough.”
Are you willing to put your hand to the plow and march onward toward Zion the beautiful City of God?
When it comes to living for the Lord and doing His will and His work: the words of Winston Churchill sum it up best, “Never, never, never, never give up.”
And remember, “If at first you don’t succeed, try, try again.” – Anonymous
“Will you decide now, to follow Jesus?
No turning back, no turning back.”
- S. Sundar Singh (Lyrics from ‘ I Have Decided to Follow Jesus’)
Today’s Verses:
The thoughts of the diligent tend only to plenteousness; but of every one that is hasty only to want.
Provrebs 21:5
For a just man falleth seven times, and riseth up again: but the wicked shall fall into mischief.
Proverbs 24:16
Brethren, I count not myself to have apprehended: but this one thing I do, forgetting those things which are behind, and reaching forth unto those things which are before, I press toward the mark for the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus. Let us therefore, as many as be perfect, be thus minded: and if in any thing ye be otherwise minded, God shall reveal even this unto you. Nevertheless, whereto we have already attained, let us walk by the same rule, let us mind the same thing.
Philippians 3:13-15
Today’s Prayer:
Father, grant me grace to be determined and strength to be persistent to always follow you wherever you want me to go and to do whatever you desire me to do.
