Procrastination – A Fancy Way To Say I Choose Not To Do
“My mother said, ’You won’t amount to anything because you procrastinate.’ I said, ‘Just wait.’”
- Judy Tenuta
Today’s Thought:
“Procrastination is like a credit card – it’s a lot of fun until you get the bill.” – Christopher Parker
Today’s Question
Have you considered this: “By the streets of ‘by and by’ one arrives at the house of ’never’?” – A Spanish Proverb
Today’s Spiritual Thought:
“Procrastination – the art of keeping up with yesterday.”
- Don Marquis
“So teach us to number our days, that we may apply our hearts unto wisdom.”
- The Bible (Psalms 90:12)
“Yesterday is a cancelled check; tomorrow is a promissory note; today is the only cash you have – so spend it wisely.”
- Kay Lyons
Is procrastination a sin? Is it a form of defiance, rebellion and disobedience? Or is it simply a way of life that has little or no impact on any other person other than the procrastinator?
So many questions, maybe we should put off addressing them for now: And then again, maybe not.
Mark Twain said, “Never put off till tomorrow what you can do the day after tomorrow.” But John F. Kennedy said, “The time to repair the roof is when the sun is shinning.”
What would God say?
He says, “(For he saith, I have heard thee in a time accepted, and in the day of salvation have I succoured thee: behold, now is the accepted time; behold, now is the day of salvation.)” – The Bible (2 Corinthians 6:2)
We need to do what we can for God today. Today may be all we have for no man knows the day or hour when the Son of man will come again. God doesn’t promise any of us a tomorrow, so should we not begin laboring to bring in the harvest from dawn till setting sun?
I think if God were to send us a message about His thoughts on procrastination it might contain the same thoughts that Lord Chesterfield wrote in a letter to his son: “Know the true value of time; snatch, seize, and enjoy every moment of it. No idleness, no laziness, no procrastination; never put off till tomorrow what you can do today.”
So then, is procrastination a sin? The Bible says, “Therefore to him that knoweth to do good, and doeth it not, to him it is sin.” (James 4:17) So I’ll let you decide.
Today’s Verses:
Boast not thyself of to morrow; for thou knowest not what a day may bring forth.
Proverbs 27:1
And whatsoever ye do, do it heartily, as to the Lord, and not unto men; Knowing that of the Lord ye shall receive the reward of the inheritance: for ye serve the Lord Christ.
Colossians 3:23-24
Say not ye, There are yet four months, and then cometh harvest? behold, I say unto you, Lift up your eyes, and look on the fields; for they are white already to harvest. And he that reapeth receiveth wages, and gathereth fruit unto life eternal: that both he that soweth and he that reapeth may rejoice together. And herein is that saying true, One soweth, and another reapeth.
John 4:35-37
Today’s Prayer:
Father, today is the day I have; help me to do everything you want me to without delay, excuse or postponement.
