Do You See What God Sees
“It is better to be hated for what you are
than loved for what you are not.”
- Andre Gide
Today’s Thought:
“Nobody is so miserable as he who longs to be somebody other than the person he is.” – Angelo Patri
Today’s Question
Have you ever stopped to consider: “The farther backward you can look, the farther forward you are likely to see?” – Winston Churchill
Today’s Spiritual Thought:
“If a man has a talent and cannot use it, he has failed.
If he has a talent and uses half of it, he has partly failed.
If he has a talent and learns somehow to use the whole of it,
he has gloriously succeeded and won
a triumph few men ever know.”
- Thomas Wolfe
“But the Lord said unto Samuel, Look not on his countenance, or on the height of his stature; because I have refused him: for the Lord seeth not as man seeth; for man looketh on the outward appearance, but the Lord looketh on the heart.”
- The Bible (1 Samuel 16:7)
“As a rule we perceive what we expect to perceive.
The unexpected is usually not received at all.
It is not seen or heard, but ignored.
Or it is misunderstood.”
– Peter F. Drucker
What do you see when you look into your mirror? I bet you don’t see what God sees.
“Vision is the art of seeing things invisible.” – Jonathan Swift And we know, “Where there is no vision, the people perish.” – The Bible (Proverbs 29:18)
When God looks at you or I, He sees potential, possibility: He sees things we can’t even begin to imagine, but often we don’t live up to His vision because we are to limited by our own perceptions.
And the greatness that God sees in us may not be what we would think of as grand or great in our limited perceptions: but rather it might be something in mans eyes that would seem insignificant and simple but in God’s view it is the ability to accomplish the plans He has for us.
“If a man is called to be a street sweeper, he should sweep streets even as Michelangelo painted, or Beethoven composed music, or Shakespeare wrote poetry. He should sweep streets so well that all the hosts of heaven and earth will pause to say, here lived a great street sweeper who did his job well.” - Martin Luther King, Jr.
Whatever your gift or talent is; whatever your abilities might be; whatever your skill; if you do your best at it and give it all your heart and do it for the Lord: it can bring glory to Him. And what greater calling can one hope to have than to live to glorify the Lord.
When you are looking in the mirror, considering what God may see, remember this:
“But when others see a shepherd boy
God may see a king
Even though your life seems filled
With ordinary things
In just a moment He can touch you
And everything will change
When others see a shepherd boy
God may see a king” - Ray Bolt & Steve Millikan (lyrics from ‘Shepherd Boy’)
God may see a king
Even though your life seems filled
With ordinary things
In just a moment He can touch you
And everything will change
When others see a shepherd boy
God may see a king” - Ray Bolt & Steve Millikan (lyrics from ‘Shepherd Boy’)
Do you see what God sees? He sees great things. Dare to live up to what He sees in you.
Today’s Verses:
Do ye look on things after the outward appearance? If any man trust to himself that he is Christ's, let him of himself think this again, that, as he is Christ's, even so are we Christ's.
2 Corinthians 10:7
I will praise thee; for I am fearfully and wonderfully made: marvellous are thy works; and that my soul knoweth right well
Psalms 139:14
Today’s Prayer:
Father, though my eye may not see nor my mind comprehend what is possible; may I not fall short of living up to your visions and dreams for me.
