Speak Lord
When you ask God a question – do you stop to listen for His answer?
In my distress I cried unto the Lord, and he heard me.
Psalms 120:1
Keep not thou silence, O God: hold not thy peace, and be not still, O God.
Psalms 83:1
“It takes a great man to be a good listener.”

Jaren Sparks said: “When you talk you repeat what you already know; when you listen, you often learn something.”
This truth can be applied both to natural learning, as well as to the garnering of spiritual knowledge, as well.
There are many examples in the Bible of God speaking and His people learning something new.
Moses and the burning bush; Saul on the road to Damascus: and one of my favorites was when the Lord called out to Samuel.
And the Lord came, and stood, and called as at other times, Samuel, Samuel. Then Samuel answered, Speak; for thy servant heareth.
1 Samuel 3:10
The critical part of our learning process and our being able to be aware of God’s plan, purpose, desire or grain of wisdom for us is to be like those who were listed above. We have to be willing to listen.
God can not impart His word, His will and His truth if we are not willing to sometimes stop talking and start listening.
Often we ask God to speak to us: but if we fail to stop and listen: we might not hear what He is saying.
To listen to God often we must find that quite place in our private prayer closet where we can tune out the world and tune in to the voice of the Master.
He has a lot to say to us – are we willing and ready to listen?
Today’s Prayer
Father, help me to become a better listener, especially when it comes to listening to you.
