The Book
What book or books will top your must read list for 2013?
All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness: That the man of God may be perfect, throughly furnished unto all good works.
2 Timothy 3:16-17
“The Bible is no mere book. It is a living document. You might say it’s a living force. We call it the Word of God because in it God spoke – and still speaks.”
- Steven Furtick
Reading; especially with the availability of libraries with abundant sources of free reading material, and Nook, Kindle and a variety of other electronic reading devices makes reading one of the less expensive and possibly more engaging hobbies or past times an individual can engage in.
And some of us may even have a list of those books we are looking forward to reading in the year ahead. But is God’s Word, The Bible at the top of that list?
Some will commit to a year through the Bible approach to including God’s word as a part of our life and that is not a bad thing. But how often do we find ourselves, when reading an assigned amount of text to meet a daily requirement, just rushing through it to get it done; rather than absorbing it, meditating on it and allowing it to speak to our hearts, souls and minds?
The Bible is probably the most significant and life changing work of literary value that you can find: doesn’t it make since to let it accomplish what God wants it to do: by allowing it to really make a difference in our lives?
Today’s Prayer
Father, your Word is a lamp to my feel and a light for my path; may I allow it to illuminate and guide me in the days and weeks ahead.
