The Lifestyle for The Modern Day Christian

Today’s Thought:

“To live is the rarest thing in the world.  Most people exist, that is all.” – Oscar Wilde

Today’s Quote:

“Everything has been figured out except how to live.” – Jean-Paul Sartre

Today’s Question:

Were you aware that when all is said and done; “It is loving and giving that make life worth living?” – A Canadian Saying from Ontario

Today’s Bible Verses:         Romans 12:1-3, Philippians 1:20-24  & Colossians 3:16-17

I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service.  And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God.  For I say, through the grace given unto me, to every man that is among you, not to think of himself more highly than he ought to think; but to think soberly, according as God hath dealt to every man the measure of faith.

According to my earnest expectation and my hope, that in nothing I shall be ashamed, but that with all boldness, as always, so now also Christ shall be magnified in my body, whether it be by life, or by death.  For to me to live is Christ, and to die is gain. But if I live in the flesh, this is the fruit of my labour: yet what I shall choose I wot not. For I am in a strait betwixt two, having a desire to depart, and to be with Christ; which is far better: Nevertheless to abide in the flesh is more needful for you.

Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly in all wisdom; teaching and admonishing one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with grace in your hearts to the Lord.  And whatsoever ye do in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God and the Father by him.

Today’s Spiritual Thought:

“This is the Great Theatre of Life.  Admission is free but the taxation is mortal.  You come when you can, and leave when you must.  The show is continuous.” – Robertson Davies

The lifestyles of the rich and famous are generally highly publicized.  The lifestyles of the infamous and notorious are also given a great deal of media attention.  But very little public accolades and media attention is paid to the lifestyles of the Modern Day Christian, unless an individual qualifies to fit into one of the categories listed above.  And then sadly that Christian’s witness and lifestyle has undoubtedly run amuck.

As Christians we need to remember our objective is to live so as to please God and not to be concerned with mans attentions.  “But as we were allowed of God to be put in trust with the gospel, even so we speak; not as pleasing men, but God, which trieth our hearts.” – The Bible (1 Thessalonians 2:4)

As Modern Day Christians our lifestyle should be one of worshipful living.  A life of worship includes praising, witnessing, testifying, serving going, doing, giving, submitting, surrendering and presenting our words and deeds so that they exemplify, represent and portray God to the world.

Most of us, if we would be really honest with ourselves, would admit that in some if not in many ways we need to make some lifestyle adjustment and alterations.

How well do we do at presenting a true picture of God to the world by the example of our lives?

We know we will not achieve full perfection until we see Him face to face – but in the meantime don’t we have an honorable and worthy challenge to embrace?

As Havelock Ellis said, “All the art of living lies in a fine mingling of letting go and holding on.”  May we let go and let God and hold on to His truth, His power, and His love by faith allowing Him to help us be the best representation of Him that we can possibly be.

Today’s Prayer:

Father, help me to do a better job of allowing my lifestyle to reflect a better image of who you are and what you mean to me to a lost and hurting world.

“Everything that live is holy, life delights in life.”
- William Blake
