Dealing with Life’s Troubles

Today’s Thought:

“Troubles are like babies – they only grow by nursing.” – Douglas Jerrold

Today’s Quote:

“The true way to soften one’s troubles is to solace those of others.” – Mme de Maintenon

Today’s Question:

Would you agree that: “When you’re in deep water, the best thing to do is shut your mouth?” – Anonymous

Today’s Bible Verses:            Matthew 5:38-45 &  2 Timothy 3:12

Ye have heard that it hath been said, An eye for an eye, and a tooth for a tooth: But I say unto you, That ye resist not evil: but whosoever shall smite thee on thy right cheek, turn to him the other also. And if any man will sue thee at the law, and take away thy coat, let him have thy cloak also. And whosoever shall compel thee to go a mile, go with him twain. Give to him that asketh thee, and from him that would borrow of thee turn not thou away. Ye have heard that it hath been said, Thou shalt love thy neighbour, and hate thine enemy. But I say unto you, Love your enemies, bless them that curse you, do good to them that hate you, and pray for them which despitefully use you, and persecute you; That ye may be the children of your Father which is in heaven: for he maketh his sun to rise on the evil and on the good, and sendeth rain on the just and on the unjust.

Yea, and all that will live godly in Christ Jesus shall suffer persecution.

Today’s Spiritual Thought:

“Be master of your petty annoyances and conserve your energies for the big, worthwhile things. It isn’t the mountain ahead that wears you out – it’s the grain of sand in your shoe.” – Robert Service

The only people who do not have problems to contend with are those people who are already in Heaven.

As long as we are on this earth there will be troubles and problems that we must face daily.  Being a Christian does not exempt us from dealing with life: it just ensures that we do not have to face life alone and that we have the hope and promise of a better life for eternity.

Often it is not the problems themselves that overwhelm us: but rather it is our attitude towards these troubles.

Here is some advice regarding troubles and how to deal with them from some anonymous sources:

“Never trouble trouble until trouble troubles you.”

“The best place to put your troubles is in your pocket – the one with a hole in it.”

“Never meet trouble halfway.”

“Don’t cross the bridge until you get to it.”

And when dealing with the troubles that do come into your life; keep these thoughts in mind:

“It isn’t the mountains that trip people up, but the molehills.” – Anonymous

“The best way to meet trouble is to face it.” – Anonymous

“Treat all disasters as if they are trivialities but never treat a triviality as if it were a disaster.” – Quentin Crisp

And remember this: “A youth was questioning a lonely old man, ‘What is life’s heaviest burden?’ he asked.  The old fellow answered sadly, ‘ To have nothing to carry.’” – Anonymous

Always keep this in mind there is no trouble too big that with God’s help we cannot get through it.

“Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls. For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.” – The Bible (Matthew 11:28-30)

Today’s Prayer:

Father, troubles will come and go: so may I learn from each experience and grow stronger in faith because I have passed through it.

“Nothing lasts for ever – not even your troubles.”
- Arnold Glasgow
