The Modern Day Christian and Politics
Today’s Thought:
“Politics is war without bloodshed.” – Mao Tse-tung
Today’s Quote:
“Power is a drug on which the politicians are hooked. They buy it from the voters, using the voters’ own money.” – Richard J. Needham
Today’s Question:
Have you ever considered the possibility that: “More men have been elected between Sundown and Sunup than ever were elected between Sunup and Sundown?” – Will Rogers
Today’s Bible Verses: Luke 20:25, 2 Timothy 2:16 & Psalms 33:11-15
.
And he said unto them, Render therefore unto Caesar the things which be Caesar's, and unto God the things which be God's.
But shun profane and vain babblings: for they will increase unto more ungodliness.
The counsel of the Lord standeth for ever, the thoughts of his heart to all generations. Blessed is the nation whose God is the Lord; and the people whom he hath chosen for his own inheritance. The Lord looketh from heaven; he beholdeth all the sons of men. From the place of his habitation he looketh upon all the inhabitants of the earth. He fashioneth their hearts alike; he considereth all their works.
Today’s Spiritual Thought:
“Politics is more dangerous than war, for in war you are only killed once.” – Winston Churchill
I doubt there would be many out there who would not agree that the political system in our country is not what is should be. Most would even say it is somewhat it not altogether broken.
So where does that leave the modern day Christian when it comes to being involved in the political arena?
Since today is election day, and one year from now we will be having an election to select who will be our Nations leader for the next four years: let me pull out my little soap box and say this, “I believe every citizen, especially the God fearing ones who believe in Jesus and have Him in their heart should get out and vote: but I do not believe we should be preaching politics from our pulpits. But this I mean we do not need to spend God’s time for His word to be imparted trash talking politicians and telling people whom to vote for. We do however need to encourage all believers to do the one things, without which, none of our voting, campaigning or anything else will make a difference: and that is to pray.
The church, as a whole is not called to have a political agenda, it is called to have God’s agenda. And God’s agenda is that we seek His face, love Him with all that we are and that we love each other, whether we claim to be democrat, republican, independent, tea party or any other such man made alliance. Every individual is a soul that God sent His son to die for and as Christians our fist and foremost responsibility is to love and share the message of Hope that is only found in and through Christ.
I believe it is important for Christians to be involved in the political process but I also believe it is incumbent upon each individual Christian to seek God and allow Him to guide your political activities.
Remember what God has promised: “If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land.” - The Bible (2 Chronicles 7:14)
Today’s Prayer:
Father, may I actively participate in the process that guides our government under your direction, with your guidance and wisdom: but may I at the same time refrain from judging others for doing the same.
“Congress is so strange: A man gets up to speak and says nothing. Nobody listens, then everybody disagrees.”
- Boris Marshalov
