(I’m trying a little different format for the summer months – hope you enjoy this and that you find hope, encouragement and blessings in them)
Word Wars
Today’s Thought:
“But words once spoke can never be recalled.” – Wentworth Dillon
Today’s Quote:
“Sticks and stones may break our bones, but words will break our hearts.” – Robert Fulghum
Today’s Question
How many words will you use today? Of those words, how many will be hurtful and how many will be helpful?
Today’s Bible Verses: Proberbs 18:16-21
A man's gift maketh room for him, and bringeth him before great men. He that is first in his own cause seemeth just; but his neighbour cometh and searcheth him. The lot causeth contentions to cease, and parteth between the mighty. A brother offended is harder to be won than a strong city: and their contentions are like the bars of a castle. A man's belly shall be satisfied with the fruit of his mouth; and with the increase of his lips shall he be filled. Death and life are in the power of the tongue: and they that love it shall eat the fruit thereof.
Today’s Spiritual Thought:
Most of us think wars are fought with guns and ammunition, yet far more wars are fought with words than we can probably imagine. Often our words have far more reaching impacts than sometimes we ever realize. Words are essential to communication, but we need to be sure we are clear on the messages we are sending.
It might be good to keep in mind what scriptures tell us about our words: “A word fitly spoken is like apples of gold and pictures of silver.” – The Bible (Proverbs 25:11): And we need to keep in mind: “He that hath knowledge spareth his words.” – The Bible (Proverbs 17:27)
When a word of admonition, reproof or correction is needed, we must remember to temper and season it with love and compassion. For all other instances the old adage that states if you can’t say something good, maybe it is better off if you don’t’ say anything at all should apply.
Today’s Prayer:
Father, help me learn to guard my words more carefully and may the words I do speak be seasoned with love, compassion and understanding.
