Truth Or Dare

Today’s Thought:

“It is easier to perceive error than to find truth, for the former lies on the surface and is easily seen, while the latter lies in the depth, where few are willing to search for it.” – Johann Goethe

Today’s Quote:

“Craft must have clothes, but truth loves to go naked.” – Thomas Fuller

Today’s Question

Have you ever stopped to ponder the possibility that: “A lie travels round the world while Truth is putting on her boots?” – Anonymous

Today’s Bible Verses:            Proverbs 12:17-22

He that speaketh truth sheweth forth righteousness: but a false witness deceit. There is that speaketh like the piercings of a sword: but the tongue of the wise is health. The lip of truth shall be established for ever: but a lying tongue is but for a moment. Deceit is in the heart of them that imagine evil: but to the counsellers of peace is joy. There shall no evil happen to the just: but the wicked shall be filled with mischief. Lying lips are abomination to the Lord: but they that deal truly are his delight.

Today’s Spiritual Thought:

“Truth is stranger than fiction.” – Lord Byron

“Father: “ I want an explanation and I want the truth.’
Son, ‘Make up your mind Dad; you can’t have both.’”  – Unknown
When in doubt, tell the truth.”  - Mark Twain
Isn’t it strange how in life, both natural and often spiritual, we would rather face a dare, take a risk of humiliation and embarrassment; rather than face the truth about ourselves.
Given an option of baring the truth or trying to avoid it by either daring to lie or choosing a daring path of misdirection; most often the majority of folks will choose the later.
But when we are in Christ, we need to remember that our sins are under His blood; old things are passed away and we are a new creation.  This of course does not mean we are perfect and that we don’t have a past or won’t make new mistakes, but it does mean we need to face them, own up to them and be accountable for them.
When we meet Jesus we have met truth personified and we no longer need to walk in the shadows of daring deceits and deceptions.
Jesus said,   “And ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.” – The Bible (John 8:32)

So are you daring enough to face the truth; regardless of what it means?

Today’s Prayer:

Father, when sometimes the potential humiliation of a dare seems a lesser evil than the humiliation of the truth; help me to remember I need but repent, confess my sins or wrongs, faults or failures.  And in the end, help me to recall the only persons opinion I really need to be concerned with is yours.
