(I’m trying a little different format for the summer months – hope you enjoy this and that you find hope, encouragement and blessings in them)
Have Mercy
Today’s Thought:
“Sweet mercy is nobility’s true badge.” – William Shakespeare
Today’s Quote:
“We hand folks over to God’s mercy, and show none ourselves.” – Adam Bede
Today’s Question
If mercy drops around you were falling like rain, would you be willing to get wet?
Today’s Bible Verses: Luke 6:37-42
Judge not, and ye shall not be judged: condemn not, and ye shall not be condemned: forgive, and ye shall be forgiven: Give, and it shall be given unto you; good measure, pressed down, and shaken together, and running over, shall men give into your bosom. For with the same measure that ye mete withal it shall be measured to you again. And he spake a parable unto them, Can the blind lead the blind? shall they not both fall into the ditch? The disciple is not above his master: but every one that is perfect shall be as his master. Either how canst thou say to thy brother, Brother, let me pull out the mote that is in thine eye, when thou thyself beholdest not the beam that is in thine own eye? Thou hypocrite, cast out first the beam out of thine own eye, and then shalt thou see clearly to pull out the mote that is in thy brother's eye.
Today’s Spiritual Thought:
Mercy is something we are all eager to receive from God; but often to resistant to extend to others. We sing anthems of mercy when we think of God’s compassions and how amazing His grace is that we receive: yet when a brother or sister offends us, sometimes even in the slightest of ways, we are out for blood, so to speak. We need to remember the economy of Gods bank of mercy. To make withdrawals we need to be willing to make deposits. Remember Jesus taught in the Sermon on the Mount: “Blessed are the merciful: for they shall obtain mercy.” – The Bible (Matthew 5:7)
Mother Teresa hit the nail on the head when she wrote, “It is by forgiving that one is forgiven.”
We have much of which we need to be forgiven by God, and since we are to be like Him, in every way we can, maybe we should start allowing His merciful attributes to become more prevalent in our daily lives.
Today’s Prayer:
Father, teach me to be as forgiving as I am in need of being forgave.
