The Effects of Righteousness
What is righteousness? To be righteous, according to Webster’s Dictionary is the act of being virtuous, or upright: acting in a just or upright manner. As a Christian it means acting in accordance with what is right and good in God’s sight and doing what He wants, His way.
We know we can not be righteous in our own strength, power or within the confines of our own abilities. It is through the shed blood of Jesus Christ that we attain atonement and forgiveness and thus making God’s righteousness accessible to us through our surrender and submission to His power and Spirit within us.
“If there is righteousness in the heart, there will be beauty in character.
If there is beauty in character, there will be harmony in the home. If there is harmony in the home, there will be order in the nation. If there is order in the nation, there will be peace in the world.”
- A Chinese Proverb
And the Lord commanded us to do all these statutes, to fear the Lord our God, for our good always, that he might preserve us alive, as it is at this day. And it shall be our righteousness, if we observe to do all these commandments before the Lord our God, as he hath commanded us.
Deuteronomy 6:24-25
Blessed are they which do hunger and thirst after righteousness: for they shall be filled.
Matthew 5:6
For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: for it is the power of God unto salvation to every one that believeth; to the Jew first, and also to the Greek. For therein is the righteousness of God revealed from faith to faith: as it is written, The just shall live by faith.
Romans 1:16-17
It is our willingness to allow the righteousness of God to be manifest in us and through us to others that will help enable us to make a difference in our world for God’s glory.
It is His power for His glory actualized in our daily walk that can bring true change to a world that is need of peace, hope and love.

Are you allowing His righteousness to be fully manifested in you?
Today’s Prayer
Father, you are the quintessential personification of all that is and ever will be righteous: so help me to allow your power and presence within me to establish and illuminate your righteousness in the things that I do and say.
“Give me your eyes
For just one second
Give me your eyes so I can see
Everything that I’ve been missing
Give me your love for humanity.
Give me your arms for the brokenhearted
Ones that are far beyond my reach
Give me your heart for the ones forgotten
Give me your eyes so I can see“
- Lyrics from ‘Give Me Your Eyes’ by Brandon Heath and Jason Ingram
