Thought for Tuesday, August 14th

August 14, 2012

Today is the Day

Do you ever wonder if you miss out on the blessings, joys and pleasures of today, because you’re too busy planning for the expectations of tomorrow?

I often wonder if that doesn’t happen to us in terms of our ministry opportunities and our praise experiences.  Do we sometimes not get so overwhelmed with trying to plan for the next big project or the figuring out how to solve the most recent problem; that we completely miss what God has in store for us today?

Are we ever guilty of forgetting that this is the day God has given us and we need to rejoice and be glad in it?

“Cease to inquire what the future has in store and to take as a gift whatever the day brings forth.”
-       Horace

Which of you by taking thought can add one cubit unto his stature?  And why take ye thought for raiment? Consider the lilies of the field, how they grow; they toil not, neither do they spin: And yet I say unto you, That even Solomon in all his glory was not arrayed like one of these. Wherefore, if God so clothe the grass of the field, which to day is, and to morrow is cast into the oven, shall he not much more clothe you, O ye of little faith?  Therefore take no thought, saying, What shall we eat? or, What shall we drink? or, Wherewithal shall we be clothed? (For after all these things do the Gentiles seek:) for your heavenly Father knoweth that ye have need of all these things.  But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you. Take therefore no thought for the morrow: for the morrow shall take thought for the things of itself. Sufficient unto the day is the evil thereof.
Matthew 6:27-34

God has it all figured out: we need to trust in Him.  We can’t change the future by failing to live in the here and now.  We can’t make the world a better place by missing our time with God today.

God may have the greatest blessing of your life in store for you right here, right now, on this very day: but will you miss it, overlook it or just ignore it simply because you are more interested in what might be tomorrow: rather than what is today?

Today’s Prayer

Father, help me to realize you have all my tomorrow’s under control and I need to live today walking and talking with you so that when you bring my next tomorrow I will be equipped with all that you had for me in the yesterday that has just gone by.

Give me your eyes
For just one second
Give me your eyes so I can see
Everything that I’ve been missing
Give me your love for humanity.
Give me your arms for the brokenhearted
Ones that are far beyond my reach
Give me your heart for the ones forgotten
Give me your eyes so I can see“
-  Lyrics from ‘Give Me Your Eyes’ by Brandon Heath and Jason Ingram
