Needful Things
Therefore I say unto you, Take no thought for your life, what ye shall eat, or what ye shall drink; nor yet for your body, what ye shall put on. Is not the life more than meat, and the body than raiment? Behold the fowls of the air: for they sow not, neither do they reap, nor gather into barns; yet your heavenly Father feedeth them. Are ye not much better than they? Which of you by taking thought can add one cubit unto his stature? And why take ye thought for raiment? Consider the lilies of the field, how they grow; they toil not, neither do they spin: And yet I say unto you, That even Solomon in all his glory was not arrayed like one of these. Wherefore, if God so clothe the grass of the field, which to day is, and to morrow is cast into the oven, shall he not much more clothe you, O ye of little faith? Therefore take no thought, saying, What shall we eat? or, What shall we drink? or, Wherewithal shall we be clothed? (For after all these things do the Gentiles seek:) for your heavenly Father knoweth that ye have need of all these things.
Matthew 6:25-32
“You can never learn that Christ is all you need, until Christ is all you have.”
- Corrie Ten Boom
Often, we do not value what we have or what is available to us until we think we have to get by without it: Or even more sadly until it is gone completely.
This is sometimes true with God’s provisions for us too. Fortunately for us they are never gone completely and His grace, mercy, love, forgiveness and blessings are always accessible to us: but how often do we wait until we are in the throws of peril and distress, before we reach out to Him: when His provision was there all the time?
I often think that many of the problems we encounter in our journey of life serve more to remind us of just how much we need Him and need to rely on Him than any other purpose they might have.
How often do you think we take God for granted and we fail to recognize, realize and appreciate just how much He is doing for us even when we are often not even aware of it?
God is the same and His provisions for us are the same whether we are walking in the valley, climbing up the mountain or enjoying the peak of a great summit: but are we the same in our thoughts, feelings and interactions with Him?
We all have needs, at every juncture and step of our life’s journey: and God has the means and resources to meet those needs: are we willing to acknowledge Him and allow Him to do what He desires?
For every needful thing – the answer ultimately is – He is really all we need. When we have Him and walk in the fullness of His power and presence everything else is taken care of.
Prayer:
Father, often I don’t realize, recognize or accept just how blessed I am and I don’t act as if I know all I need is you: forgive me and draw me ever closer so that whatever state I may be in I am content and satisfied in You.
