Thought for Thursday, May 23rd

May 23, 2013

Self Sight Can Equal Short Sightedness Sometimes

Who can understand his errors? cleanse thou me from secret faults. Keep back thy servant also from presumptuous sins; let them not have dominion over me: then shall I be upright, and I shall be innocent from the great transgression.
Psalms 19:12-13

“If I have seen further it is by standing on the shoulders of giants.”
-          Isaac Newton

Have you ever noticed that frequently things look different when you are looking back on them: rather than looking at them?

Furthermore; have you ever come to realize that your perception of yourself as well as your take on a situation or set of circumstances are often not always the same as that of others around you?

Do you ever come to the startling realization that you are not always the person you think you are and you don’t always measure up to everything you think you are cracked up to be?

The reality of life is this: we are often the last to see our own faults and failings: we often never notice our shortfalls and weaknesses and for a fact; we never see ourselves in the same light that God sees us.  The same is true of the situations and experiences we encounter in life.   We hardly ever see them through eyes that are not somehow clouded by our own perceptions, prejudices and previous experiences.

The truth is this: in order to be the best that we can be and to become all that God desire us to be: we need another set of eyes to see us, evaluate us and the things we are dealing with.

God’s eyes are the best: and often He uses the eyes of those around us; or those who are the closest to us to help us see what He sees.

The point of view from which we see things can sometimes do with a little clarity and illumination.  Are we willing to let God’s light radiate into the realm of our perception and are we open to being, not just seen, but revealed and exposed for who we truly are and what we truly think from His point of view?

I often wonder if when we look in the mirror we could see what God sees, what our reaction would be.

What do you think or maybe a more appropriate way to word this question would be to ask: what is your point of view?

Prayer:

Father, I know that I don’t see in me what you or many others see: so help me to see more clearly and be more open to the illuminating revelation of your truth.
