Another Gift
If ye love me, keep my commandments. And I will pray the Father, and he shall give you another Comforter, that he may abide with you for ever; Even the Spirit of truth; whom the world cannot receive, because it seeth him not, neither knoweth him: but ye know him; for he dwelleth with you, and shall be in you. I will not leave you comfortless: I will come to you.
John 14:15-18
“What we are is God’s gift to us. What we become is our gift to God.”
- Nizer
When God gave His Son to die in our place: He gave a gift that keeps on giving.
Our salvation and reconciliation to God cost Jesus a great deal of pain, suffering, humiliation and eventually His life.
Yet, in spite of the betrayal, the separation from His Father and the burden of our sins which He took upon Himself: within the forty days immediately following His crucifixion and resurrection; He was promising even further gifts to us.
The promise of the gift of the Holy Spirit to comfort and abide with us is actually the gift of the very presence of God to live within us and work through us. When we accept God’s gift of salvation it comes with the indwelling of the Holy Spirit.
And as if salvation and God’s presence in us were not enough: He also gives us gifts and talents to use and develop in our journey through life so that we can be better equipped to serve Him more fully.
He continues the giving with blessings and promises that He is always faithful to keep.
In light of all that He has given and continues to give us: is there any room for debate that He deserves all of our heart; our mind and all of our time, energy and abilities? Scripture tells us that it is considered a reasonable expectation that we are to present our bodies as living sacrifices, to be holy and acceptable to Him.
Does He really deserve any less of a gift from us? I think not!
Prayer:
Father, I know that what I have to offer you is not as great or as perfect as what You have given me: but it is what I am and who I am and that is what you have created and I know that is what you want from me: is just me: so help me to give me freely.
