In Focus
For thou art my hope, O Lord God: thou art my trust from my youth.
By thee have I been holden up from the womb: thou art he that took me out of my mother's bowels: my praise shall be continually of thee. I am as a wonder unto many; but thou art my strong refuge. Let my mouth be filled with thy praise and with thy honour all the day.
Psalms 71:5-8
“How we feel isn’t determined by our circumstances – it’s 100% determined by our focus. Choose ‘Hope,’ as your focus today.”
- Sandi Krakowski
When something is out of focus – it is blurry and hard to see clearly.
This is also true of our spiritual perspective. If spiritually we are out of focus then it seems reasonable that the things of God would be hard for us to see clearly and thus more difficult to grasp and understand with clarity.
The lens of faith helps filter out doubts, insecurities, uncertainties and the improbabilities of life and we can see more clearly that all things are possible with God’s help.
It is this belief in and hope that we have in God’s powers, love and forgiveness: our assurances of His grace and mercy that enable us and facilitate our success at walking by faith and not by sight to complete the journey that is before us to reach the prize of His high calling, through, Christ Jesus.
But we, like Peter, when he was walking on the water, often take our eyes off the prize and our view is not filled with Him: hence our way becomes unsure because we have let our life and our perceptions loose the proper spiritual focus that is needed.
There is an old hymn that calls on us to ‘Turn our Eyes Upon Jesus:’ and if we truly wan to see clearly and have a crisp and clear focus of His will, His way and His plan then this is exactly what we need to do.
Prayer:
Father, help me to stay focused on You and not get distracted and unclear when it comes to my spiritual sight.
