Thought for Wednesday, June 12th

June 12, 2013

A Little More Concentration May Be Needed

Let this mind be in you, which was also in Christ Jesus:
Who, being in the form of God, thought it not robbery to be equal with God:  But made himself of no reputation, and took upon him the form of a servant, and was made in the likeness of men: And being found in fashion as a man, he humbled himself, and became obedient unto death, even the death of the cross.
Philippians  2:5-8

“Oh child of God, be more careful to keep the way of the Lord, more concentrated in heart in seeking His glory, and you will see the loving-kindness and the tender mercy of the Lord in your life.”
-          Charles H. Spurgeon

Do you ever have a problem with being distracted?

In our multitasking world where we drive and text or talk on our cell phones: watch television while texting and playing a game on our tablets: and so many other things, is it any wonder that we struggle with focusing and concentrating on one thing at a time for any length of time?

This inability to focus and concentrate seems especially prevalent when it comes to our spiritual endeavors.

How many times have you been distracted and your attention drawn to other things when you are trying to pray or read God’s word?

How difficult is it to focus and not have your mind wander in a typical Sunday Morning sermon?

How hard is it for us to commit to a task of servitude and not get drawn away from it by something more enticing or more interesting?

Could it be that many of us are not where we want to be in the development of our relationship with God – because we fail to give it proper attention concentration and focus?
How hard is it to be still, listen to and wait on the Lord when the world is buzzing around you at a hundred miles a second?

Growing up we, or at least I, in school had to be constantly reminded to pay attention and focus on the lesson.

The same is true for many of us spiritually speaking too: we need to pay more attention, concentrate with greater effort and focus on the things of God more faithfully.

Prayer:

Father, as you only too well know, I often have the attention span of a flea; so help me to be more focused, more attentive and to concentrate more effectively on You and the things You have for my life.
