More Than Words

Jesus answered them, and said, My doctrine is not mine, but his that sent me. If any man will do his will, he shall know of the doctrine, whether it be of God, or whether I speak of myself.  He that speaketh of himself seeketh his own glory: but he that seeketh his glory that sent him, the same is true, and no unrighteousness is in him.
John 7:16-18

“Man does not live by words alone,...”
-          Adlai Stevenson

Some would agree that the pen is more powerful at times than the sword could ever hope to be: spiritually speaking, words alone will not a good Christian make.

I can attest and proclaim day in and day out what I might believe or what I might think is right: but if I fail to demonstrate the truths of my proclamations by my actions and behaviors: my declarations are shallow and in vain.

To say that God is or that God can: if I do not follow up by acting as if I believe He is or He can: then my claim, though it is most certainly true: is empty and devoid of substance when it comes to the truth of my life.

Being a Christian is more than saying I believe: it is living in such a way that His commandments and His desires influence, effect and have evidentiary, observable proofs in my actions.

Does this mean I am perfect: absolutely not: but it does mean that God’s power, presence, truth and love are discernible in more than what I say: they are also a part of what I do.

To love God with all my heart, my mind, my spirit and my soul means more than just proclaiming it – it means living it.

It is more than words: for words will faultier, fade and fail: but my deeds will speak volumes to those who observe and know me and might attest to the person that I am.

And it is my desire to be a person who lives out God’s love in a way that is more about the doing than it is about the saying.

Prayer:

Father, it is so easy to say I love you, but it is much more challenging to live I love you: so help me to live it more than I say it.
