Motives

Today’s Thought:

“The true motives of our actions, like the real pipes of an organ are usually concealed.  But the gilded and the hallow pretext is pompously placed in the front of the show” – Charles Caleb Colton

Today’s Question

You do realize that all that glitters is not gold, don’t you?

Today’s Spiritual Thought:

Have you ever encountered something or someone that just seems to good to be true?

Sadly many Christians have a way of coming across that way when you first meet them.

Sometimes we as children of God have a tendency towards piety and attitudes of superiority.  We think we are better than we are and sometimes we think too much of ourselves.  We need to remember pride goes before destruction and a haughty spirit precedes a fall.

Sometimes we think we are doing what we do for the right reasons and often we are doing those things to be seen, acknowledge and recognized by others, rather than doing them solely for the glory of God whether we are given any credit or not.

We need to examine our motives as servants for the Lord.   Do we serve because we expect to gain some benefit or do we serve because we know it is the right thing to do and we just want to do it because we are completely and totally devoted to our Master?

Sometimes we need to do, even the most laborious and non-gratifying tasks because we love Him and desire to do whatever He needs to have done.

Our acts of service and deeds of ministry should not always be about who sees them and what they think of them.

Sometimes the greatest rewards come from doing good things that only you and God know about.

After all, shouldn’t knowing you have served well and done a good deed for God, be motivation enough to encourage you towards doing more and more?   It should be, but unfortunately it isn’t always.

Remember scripture tells us whatever is pure, of good report, has virtue and merit and brings praise are those things that we should think on and it is these things that should be our motivators.

Today’s Verses:

Let us hold fast the profession of our faith without wavering; (for he is faithful that promised;) And let us consider one another to provoke unto love and to good works: Not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as the manner of some is; but exhorting one another: and so much the more, as ye see the day approaching.
Hebrews 10:23-25

But ye, beloved, building up yourselves on your most holy faith, praying in the Holy Ghost, Keep yourselves in the love of God, looking for the mercy of our Lord Jesus Christ unto eternal life. And of some have compassion, making a difference: And others save with fear, pulling them out of the fire; hating even the garment spotted by the flesh.
        Jude 1:20-23

Today’s Prayer:

Father, may I have pure motives and be motivated by love for You to do whatever needs to be done; even if it is for your eyes only.
