Rock and Roll and Religion

Today’s Thought:

“Rock and Roll ain’t noise pollution.” 

Today’s Question

Does rock music make you want to roll?

Today’s Spiritual Thought:

Today’s title uses words that probably make some of you want to cringe.  You consider rock music to be an instrument of the devil and of course we all know religion is the devils way to destroy the church.

But bear with me for a few minutes and I might be able to show you how, if we try hard enough even the lyrics of rock songs can provoke us to spiritual actions that can be good.

Oliver Wendell Holmes said the following with regards to music:  “Take a music-bath once or twice a week for a few seasons, and you will find that it is to the soul what the water-bath is to the body.”

With this in mind I want us to look at a few Rock and Roll songs and see just what message they might have that would benefit us spiritually.

First lets look at AC/DC’s “Highway to Hell.”  The lyrics state, “I’m on the highway to hell,” repeatedly throughout the song.  This is a truth for any unbeliever.   This is a summation of the salvation message for we know the wages of sin is death but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ the Lord.   We know all have sinned and come short of the glory of God and that there is none righteous no not one.  So at one point we were all on the highway to Hell and the only way to get off that Highway and on the road to Glory Land is to accept Jesus Christ as our personal Lord and Savior.

Now this message may not have been the intent of this band when they recorded it, but if the devil can take what God means for good and use if for bad, can’t we take what might be bad and use it for good?

Truth is truth and without Jesus we are all sinners headed for hell.

There is only one way to get to Heaven and that is by admitting you’re a sinner, believing Jesus died for your sins and confessing Him as your personal Lord and Savior by inviting Him to come live in your heart.

Then you get off AC/DC’s “Highway to Hell” and you can get on the “Stairway to Heaven.”

Today’s Verses:

That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved. For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.

Today’s Prayer:

Father, I once was lost but now I’m found for I’ve been washed in the blood of the lamb.  Thank you!
