Did you know love is a four-letter word better shared than spoken?

Today’s Spiritual Thought:

Frances Smedley said, “All is fair in love and war.”  By in large, as a society, we use this quote often to justify our often harsh, unkind and occasionally cruel treatment of one another.

Love, for many is an elusive concept that we pretend to understand but never really grasp.

However, as a Christians, our Heavenly Father has simplified the meaning of love for us. If you were to look in His dictionary, if He had one, to find the meaning of love; you would find and entry something like this:

Love  -  (verb) meaning to give all

The first commandment says we are to love the Lord our God with all our heart, mind and soul and Jesus said like unto it the other greatest truth we should embrace and follow is hat we love our brother as ourselves.

Based the way we treat each other, we must not have a very high regard for ourselves.

God loved us so much that He thought we were worth sacrificing His son for.

Scripture teaches us that no greater love hath any man for a friend than that he is willing to lay down his life for Him.

Scripture also says if we love Him, we will keep His commandments.

Today being Valentines Day our thoughts and minds are focused on the precept of love and we are hopefully taking extra measures to express to those we love that we really love them by dong special things for them.  But shouldn’t we be dong special things for them all the time if we really love them?

The love we celebrate today is by no means trivial, but it is temporal and not eternal.

We need to learn about eternal love; God’s kind of love; the love that gives all.

If we could embrace love from God’s perspective and live out His idea and definition of love in our world, I’m sure our world would be different and no doubt better.

Today’s Verses:

Herein is our love made perfect, that we may have boldness in the day of judgment: because as he is, so are we in this world. There is no fear in love; but perfect love casteth out fear: because fear hath torment. He that feareth is not made perfect in love. We love him, because he first loved us. If a man say, I love God, and hateth his brother, he is a liar: for he that loveth not his brother whom he hath seen, how can he love God whom he hath not seen? And this commandment have we from him, That he who loveth God love his brother also.

1 John 4:17-21

Set me as a seal upon thine heart, as a seal upon thine arm: for love is strong as death; jealousy is cruel as the grave: the coals thereof are coals of fire, which hath a most vehement flame. Many waters cannot quench love, neither can the floods drown it: if a man would give all the substance of his house for love, it would utterly be contemned.

Today’s Prayer:

Father, you love me with a love I do not fully understand and comprehend; but help me to embrace it and ever more, help me to share it as freely with others as you have freely shared it with me.
