Daily Thought for Friday, February 4th

February 4, 2011

(Today’s thought is not meant to be so much provocative as it is thought provoking.
So read on with an open mind and an open heart to allow God to do His work in you regardless of the source from which it comes.)

Rock and Roll and Religion (Part Four)

Today’s Thought:

“It is the individual who knows how little he knows about himself who stands a reasonable chance of finding out something about himself.”  -  S. I. Hayakawa

Today’s Question

If you know yourself better than anyone else knows you - how much do you really know about yourself?

Today’s Spiritual Thought:

There are many rock anthems and songs that champion the notions of self-awareness, self-actualization and self-indulgence: far to many to list here.

And as much debauchery that can come from self-indulgence and sometimes self-actualizations; self-awareness can be an important concept to embrace.

Someone once said, “To know me is to love me,” but sadly this is not always the truth.  Sometimes to know me is to not like what you see and not like what I am.

David was wise in that he invited God to assist him in his self-evaluations by asking God to search him and try him to see if there be any wicked ways that needed improvement.

Self-searching is the means by which we bring new vision, action and grace to bear upon the dark and negative side of our natures.  With it comes the development of that kind of humility that makes it possible for us to receive God’s help… We find that bit by bit we can discard the old life – the one that did not work – for a new life that can and does worker under conditions whatever.  As Bill Sees It

This realization leads us to the choice of a Pop/Rock song for today’s spiritual inspiration; “Man in the Mirror” from Michael Jackson.  An unlikely source but the truth of the lyrics is pure.  It states that we must make a change to make our world a better place, but we must start with the man in the mirror.

If we want our world to become a better place for you, me and the entire human race then we need to look first at our-self.

We need to invite God’s illumination to reveal what is weak; what is unholy; what is impure; what is unjust and what needs to be changed; then we need to act upon what we see.

REO Speedwagon sang. “We’re building a bridge, one stone at a time;” we need to build a bridge between your heart and mine by starting with the first step and that is to look at our self and “make that change.”

We can change the world one life at a time but first you and I must start with the life I call mine, (and for you, yours).

Today’s Verses:

For the love of Christ constraineth us; because we thus judge, that if one died for all, then were all dead: And that he died for all, that they which live should not henceforth live unto themselves, but unto him which died for them, and rose again. Wherefore henceforth know we no man after the flesh: yea, though we have known Christ after the flesh, yet now henceforth know we him no more. Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new. And all things are of God, who hath reconciled us to himself by Jesus Christ, and hath given to us the ministry of reconciliation; To wit, that God was in Christ, reconciling the world unto himself, not imputing their trespasses unto them; and hath committed unto us the word of reconciliation.
2 Corinthians 5:14-19

Today’s Prayer:

Father, changes are needed to make this world a better place for you and me and the entire human race, so let there be change on earth and let it begin with me.
