A Risky Business

Risk takers are those who are among the most courageous.  These folks often have a certain naiveté to the dangers that taking risks can have.  But as a Christian isn’t it almost imperative for us to be willing to step out in faith and take risks from time to time.  I’m not saying that we should be presumptuous but we need to be careful that we are not overly or excessively cautious to the point of never stepping out at all.

Living a life filled with God’s favor, I believe requires a certain tenacity and bent towards being a bit of a risk taker.  Mark Twain said, “Necessity is the mother of taking chances.”  And as a Christian isn’t it necessary for us to present our bodies as living sacrifices to the Lord?

Ray Bradbury wrote, “Living at risk is jumping off the cliff and building your wings on the way down.”  This sounds a lot like living in faith to me.

Remember this, Jesus risked everything so that you could have freedom and liberty and deliverance from death and hell, so shouldn’t we be willing to engage in a little risky business, spiritually speaking, for Him?  The Palatine of Posnan made this statement, “I prefer liberty with danger to peace with slavery.”

Risk!  Risk anything! … Do the hardest thing on earth for you…. Face the truth.”
Katherine Mansfield

Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends.
John 15:13

Hereby perceive we the love of God, because he laid down his life for us: and we ought to lay down our lives for the brethren. But whoso hath this world's good, and seeth his brother have need, and shutteth up his bowels of compassion from him, how dwelleth the love of God in him? My little children, let us not love in word, neither in tongue; but in deed and in truth.
1 John 3:16-18

How many spiritual risks have you taken lately?

Are you ready to be daring?

If you will step out of the boat – He will help you walk on the water.

Today’s Prayer

Father, you are the giver of all things good and right; honest and true and you are always there giving your all for me – may I be as faithful to give my all for you and may I be willing to walk outside my comfort zone and be willing to risk it all for you.
My life is in You Lord
My strength is in You Lord
My hope is in You Lord
In You, it’s in You
I’ll praise You with all of my life
I’ll praise You with all of my strength
With all of my life, with all of my strength
All my hope is in You
-  Lyrics from ‘My Life Is In You Lord’ by Daniel Gardner
