No Shortcuts
Sometimes what would appear to be the shortest distance doesn’t make for either the quickest or the best of trips.
Most of us, if we have to get from one point to another want to get there as quickly and efficiently as possible. And for still others of us we want to get there at a break-neck speed.
But in terms of our spiritual journey and our eternal destination we need to remember this; there is only one way to get to where we want to go. The only way home is through the cross. Often our spiritual journey does not take us from point A to point B by the shortest possible passage and most assuredly often the speed limit on the road to life, while at times it can be excessive; is generally slow and steady and even occasionally slower than a snails-pace.
Our objective as Christians should be to travel with the guidance of the Holy Spirit, with our course set by the Master’s plan and our journey intent on bringing praise, honor and glory to Him at every juncture on every point along the way.
“There are no shortcuts to any place worth going.”
Beverly Sills
Therefore all things whatsoever ye would that men should do to you, do ye even so to them: for this is the law and the prophets. Enter ye in at the strait gate: for wide is the gate, and broad is the way, that leadeth to destruction, and many there be which go in thereat: Because strait is the gate, and narrow is the way, which leadeth unto life, and few there be that find it.
Matthew 7:12-14
For such as be blessed of him shall inherit the earth; and they that be cursed of him shall be cut off. The steps of a good man are ordered by the Lord: and he delighteth in his way. Though he fall, he shall not be utterly cast down: for the Lord upholdeth him with his hand. I have been young, and now am old; yet have I not seen the righteous forsaken, nor his seed begging bread. He is ever merciful, and lendeth; and his seed is blessed. Depart from evil, and do good; and dwell for evermore. For the Lord loveth judgment, and forsaketh not his saints; they are preserved for ever: but the seed of the wicked shall be cut off.
Psalms 37:22-28
As you journey through this land; keep a song of praise upon your lips as you go.
Yield yourself to the Holy Spirit and don’t ever let go. Rejoice and be glad and give thanksgiving too: Remember the purpose of this trip your on is to finally make it home, to meet the one who gave His all so that you could live; and then for all eternity to rule and reign with Him.
Today’s Prayer
Father, for you there is no time and distance and your purposes are quite clear: help me to make the most of my life and always to you stay near.
“My life is in You Lord
My strength is in You Lord
My hope is in You Lord
In You, it’s in You
My strength is in You Lord
My hope is in You Lord
In You, it’s in You
I’ll praise You with all of my life
I’ll praise You with all of my strength
With all of my life, with all of my strength
All my hope is in You “
I’ll praise You with all of my strength
With all of my life, with all of my strength
All my hope is in You “
- Lyrics from ‘My Life Is In You Lord’ by Daniel Gardner
