Conversational Seasoning
Walk in wisdom toward them that are without, redeeming the time. Let your speech be alway with grace, seasoned with salt, that ye may know how ye ought to answer every man.
Colossians 4:6
Let the words of my mouth, and the meditation of my heart, be acceptable in thy sight, O Lord, my strength, and my redeemer.
Psalms 119:9-11
Quote of the Day
“As long as a word remains unspoken, you are its master; once you utter it, you are its slave.” – Solomon Ibn Gabirol
Today’s Thoughts and Insights
Do you ever wonder how many words you utter during the course of any given day?
If you are like me; your word count will probably be quite high: though I do have some days when I am less conversational than others.
However the worth of one’s verbiage is not directly proportional to the quantity but it is rather more dependent on it’s quality.
The old ‘quality’ vs. ‘quantity’ debate may rage on but the old adage of ‘A word fitly spoken’ will always win the day, especially from God’s point of view.
If you look at the ministry of Jesus – you will see that He spoke often but His words were always to the point, relevant to the situation and pertinent to the purpose.
As children of God we need to guard our words and make sure that the things we say are either edifying, purposefully and lovingly instructional, scriptural and spiritually corrective or compassionately and kindly so as to encourage, strengthen and help.
Sadly, more hurt and harm is done through harsh and inappropriately spoken words than will ever be done with guns, knives and other weapons of a destructive nature. And even more sadly this tendency is widespread and prevalent far too frequently within the walls of the church among brothers and sisters in the faith.
We all need to remember the childhood admonition and we should each always stop and think before we speak.
Today’s Prayer
Father you are gently, loving, kind while still being corrective, admonishing and instructional. Thank you! Help me to be more aware and sensitive about the things I say and may my words be seasoned with your love, your mercy and your grace.
“A man’s conversation is the mirror of his thoughts.”
– Chinese Proverb
“Let the poor man say
I am rich in Him
Let the lost man say
I am found in Him
Let the blind man say
I can see again
Let the dead man say
I am born again
Holy Spirit come
Move in power“
I am rich in Him
Let the lost man say
I am found in Him
Let the blind man say
I can see again
Let the dead man say
I am born again
Holy Spirit come
Move in power“
